    Roots Of The Recto?

I apologise in advance, but wondered about this upon reading this thread. In regards to the choice of rectification, does the tube rectification work better in adding in tube sag saturation when using Raw and/or Pushed vs. Vintage or Modern? I have yet to try it myself, but seeing how Raw and...

    Output Master Volume

I have an older 3 channel amp like you. I have yet to open it up to play with the circuit of the effects loop as I really do not use time based effects for anything more than lead work sometimes, and then I just have a delay set in front of the amp with a slight slap back to make tremolo dives...

Why does a Mesa Recto 4x12 sounds better than my V30 2x12?

The main reason why guys really don't want to move a 4x12 around is that they don't know how to lift and yes a 4x12 is heavy. Watch how most guys lift their gear up to load it on/off stage, into their vehicle, etc... They bend over the piece of gear and use their arms and back. Total recipe...

    Output Master Volume

I subbed this thread as I am interested in learning what you figure out Afu. I stopped running the Master for the global amp volume and have gone to using just the channel volume as my volume as I have been stuck on channel 2 since discussing it with you last year. I still have never been...

Why does a Mesa Recto 4x12 sounds better than my V30 2x12?

It wasn't the speakers at all. It was the treadplate that made the cabinet sound better. The added mass and vibrating metal tone added to the sound of the cabinet. I still don't understand why people always complain about lugging a 4x12 around. The darn thing has wheels. If you are...

Mesa Rectifier Diamond Plate - Painted Orange

That is a killer job. Well done.

    UPS for Dual Rectifier

Why not just get yourself a simple Juice Goose, or the Furman equivalent? They are essentially what you are looking for but designed for music equipment. They don't have the battery backup, but I would rely on one of these before anything designed for office equipment.

    Tonepros Bridges

I have been looking at picking up a bridge and stop bar for my V. Aside from what I guess is closer tolerance machining of the parts, is there a weight difference between stock and the Tone Pros parts? Are they a direct drop in for the old bushings or do those need to be replaced as well?

Can you play any song you want?

Good post 2 Boogie. I was one to never want to play exactly like my guitar heros. There was always something in the back of my mind telling me I'de never get to their level. What I did want though is to cop their techniques and use it with my interpretation. The only question I have that I...

    "Mint"

Uh.... Not sure I understand what you meant by that. How does one regain their virginity?

    my love for Heritage Guitars

Those are nice. It looks like they are stepping up their game a little lately. Heritage headstocks are what kill it for me though. It always looks like the headstock is an afterthought on every model.

    Sit/ stand desks

Sorry, never even thought about anything like this as I am not in a situation where sitting causes me pain like it does you. My only thought on the matter is set the desk up to how it works well with your workflow. Make sure the monitors are in a direct line with your ear as they would be in a...

Beginner to recording multitrack on computer..... Advice?

I didn't see this thread earlier. I would suggest to the OP starting with Audacity since it is free. Use your 4 track to recrod each track of your music separately, then rip the tape to computer in wav format. Once Audacity is open, add tracks according to the help file that comes with the...

    Stand-alone multitrack recorder or PC?

Tascam 388 FTW! I wish I record using computer. My bassist uses a Tascam Portastudio 4 track and gets some awesome sounding recordings off it.. At least compared to 4 track recordings from the 80's I remember. We will be tracking our album's guitar and vocal tracks using his 4 track then...

    "Mint"

Mint isn't as bad as "Like New". How can something be like new? It is either new or used. Now using a descriptor with used as in barely used says the same thing, but is more properer.

Have a 3 channel recto. Will a TOV or 2 channel solve this?

Turn down your bass knob. Turn your treble half hour to hour lower than where your mids are set at, and use the presence to edge back in the sparkle the treble usually gives. This is how I cured that whole bass looseness on my amp and cabinet. So much so I pulled the OD pedal out of the chain...

    Amp issue

Cleaning the tube sockets is easy. Use the contact cleaner afu mentioned, but instead of using a twisted napkin or towel, to get down in the holes, use the tube you pulled from that socket. Spray the tube's pins with a short blast from the cleaner can then insert the tube, then take it out...

    Trying EL34's again. Need suggestions.

Whoa these people are smoking some major crack asking those prices. Recent production tubes in similar price ranges of real Mullards? I guess I don't need to try them that bad. I could understand maybe $125-150, but $489? nyet!!!

    NGD. Gibson root beer float.

That finish and the Iced Tea one they had in the late 1990's are my favorite LP finishes.

Tone knobs on guitars - do you really use it for Metal?

I can't say that I ever use the tone knob, even for other types of music than metal. I have also gotten to the point that I really am starting to question the volume control as well. I don't do swells, so I am thinking maybe just wire in a kill switch instead of the volume knob and give that a...
