Doug's tone kit, any opinions for a Mark V?

I've never used Doug's tone kit. I just create my own pre-amp mix. However, with that said I would not use ALL Tung-Sol in the pre-amp section, just in the V1. Otherwise it'll be too bright. I use it only in the V1 of my Mark IV and it's perfect there, at least for me.

    2008 Fender American Strat

Nice guitar. I have a Strat that looks just like that, (actually my favorite) however, it's from '75. Enjoy!

    Best Current EL34's?

Yes I'm going to say SED =C=, but also Mesa's STR-450. They are pricy, but I've used them and I thought they sounded the best.

What album are you listening to?

Rory Gallagher - Notes from San Fransico - Side 2 which is live is sick. The playing there is off the top amazing. IF you haven't heard it, I strongly suggest you do. Love that strat sound he gets.

    Mark IV Problems

I had a similar situation a couple of years ago and like you changed the tubes to no avail. Ended up being my low voltage regulator. That was my case, may not be yours, but just so you know. Good luck

    NGD-warning: hollow body content

I've thought of that too. If I just dressed them down, would they feel the same as lower profiles or would there be any difference? Thanks

    NGD-warning: hollow body content

Yep, those are 57s. A very nice sound. Brighter than most 335s I've played. I'm just not a fan of the jumbo frets it came with. It has taken me a while to get used to, since all my other guitars have the older low profile type. Otherwise I really like the sound with my Mark IV in Tweed...

    NGD-warning: hollow body content

Am I The Only 14 Year Old To Soon Obtain A Mesa?

It's good to see that you've worked for it and saved up on your own. I have a son who will be turning 14 this year. Good luck with it!!

Does one need music theory to write music like ___________?

I started playing guitar when I was 8 years old. I’m in my mid 40’s now. After about a year and a half of struggling, I went for lessons. Didn’t understand much or more likely didn’t pay enough attention. I just wanted to play Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Quit lessons and self-taught for...

    Tube Type vs Coil Type

I was just wondering if others felt the same way...... Anyway, for the past several years I've been running 6L6/EL34 combination with my Mark IV. Sometimes I will run all 6L6's to change things up. What I've noticed is that my guitars (Gibsons) sound better with the EL34's than my single coil...

    NEW! Mesa STR 448 (EL34)

Just called boogie. They are not in stock yet. Expected in the next 2 - 3 weeks. Price point should be around the 447's. Not sure of the manufacturer though. Said the 447's are Russian. I have the 447's, pulled them after and hour or so, not really happy with the sound. They just don't...

    NEW! Mesa STR 448 (EL34)

448? I don't see them on their web site, Only the 447 and 450. Am I missing something?

Winger =C= SED 6L6-too much bass & not enough gain- ma 18.9

I've been using SED =C= for about a year now in my Mark IV. I switch between all 6L6's and 6L6, EL-34 combo. I buy them from tubedepot.com. They don't sound the way you've described how yours sound in the Mark V. I don't know the ma rating in mine, but the rating number on my 6L6's are "21"...

Mark III - power tubes with 34's?

+1 I own a Mark IV and mostly run EL-34's in the outer sockets. Though I have from time to time run all 6L6's just for a change in sound. The 34's I've liked are the SED =C= and also Mesa's STR-450, the NOS Siemans.
