I am experising slight crackling in all channels and wattage modes except for 10 watt mode. I have swapped out power tubes to new JJ6L6GC's, pre amp tubes are stock. Its not noticable when I am at ear bleeding volumes through my 2x12 vert cab though. So what do guys think it is?

I too am experiencing too much sizzle and ice picking. I swapped out my power tubes with JJ6L6GC and that helped some issues with clarity. But I just ordered a tung-sol 12ax7, will putting that in the V1 help with the sizzle or what type of difference will i hear?

I am leaning towards retubing my Mark V combo, I am sticking with the Mesa tubes, but When you guys talk about "matched sets" what exactly does that mean. I have always just ordered 4 6L6 power tubes and 7 12ax7 preamp tubes with past amps. With boogie they only sell them in packs of duets, so...

i plugged my Mark V into an ENGL standard 4x12 and it sounded like crap! My new recto 2x12 vertical killed it side by side.

I am a huge stryper/ michael sweet fan, ( going to see them in Houston in Nov, and got back stage passes and get to sit in on soundcheck) so hopefully i can get a close up of his settings. I know they were big boogie guys back in the day and would slave into marshalls or some thing like that...
