I figured it out... thanks to all that responded... I had the loop level adjusted way to low... now its pure Mesa THUNDER like my Dual Rec SOLO head! That was possibly the longest brain fart I have EVER had! :D

Mesa Russian's in V-1 and V-4 and V-5 and tung sols in V-2 & V-3 in the preamp ONLY stock Mesa 6L6GC's in the power amp. Cuts like a knife fight while a tank is running you over!

The Roadster is awesome... I have had quite a few Mesa's in the last 5 years and the Roadster is by far the best of the bunch... and all the others were great! I havent owned a bad Mesa yet! Just different ones.

I have no complaints about the roadster at all... I was just wondering if this volume difference was the norm. As far as amps go this is the absolute BEST amp I have ever owned... Tons of tone and soul... And trust me... I have owned WAY to many amps!

yes it is a dual rectifier... but so are ALOT of other Mesa amps... but when you say "Dual Rec." people generally know you are refering to the Mesa Boogie Dual rectifier Solo series 2 or 3 channel amps. Just easier to say "Dual Rec." & Roadster than to type all that out each time you refer to it.

Anyone else own or played both? My Dual Rec is WAY louder than my Roadster and I was wondering if this was the norm? Just flat out across the board the dual rec has more headroom and just walks all over the roadster when it comes to overall volume.

Well everytime I get a used amp I always re-tube it with new ones so I know exactly whats in there and that everything is new and right. Personally I use EH 5U4GB Rectifier tubes in my dual rec. They have always worked like a charm in mine and arent as expensive as the Mesa branded ones. I...

What he said... Thats why I cant play stock strats... the hum just bugs the $#(^ outta me. I loaded mine with the Duncan lil 59 in the neck & a duck in the middle and a JB JR. in the bridge... no more hum!

The first amp I ever went out and bought was a Crate CR-1. The Original wooden "crate" looking ones. I loved that amp and wished for a long time they would have had the CR-1R "same amp with reverb" in stock when I bought mine.

Its not a bad deal... but consider the DSL's are not built nowhere near the same quality that say your old JCM800 is nor the Boogie. I would be more inclined to put EL34's in the Dual Rec and keep it. A couple years down the road the Boogie will still be kicking... the DSL might not!

Well the first thing you should do is make sure the wires to the reverb tank havent come lose. Just give them a little push and twist and make sure they are plugged in good. If that isnt it then check/replace the V4 preamp tube. it is the reverb drive and return. ( 4th from the left when looking...

I like the Mesa tubes myself. they sound great, come with a fantastic warranty, and are really consistant. I have gotten alot of JJ's over the years that were duds or just didnt last long or sound good. (got some good ones to) but the Mesa tubes just work great to me.
