i have a mark iv and thats pretty much all i know about but why does it seem like the roadster is more popular than the roadking?
 
i figured but i didnt think the popularity would be so overwhelmingly one sided.
 
The Roadster is simply a stripped down Roadking- and for me, an extra several hundred dollars wasnt enough to justify the additional effect loop (thats the only feature I covet from the Roadking that isnt available on the Roadster). So I guess money was the reason in my case....

aside from money which was already mentioned, the road king is intmidating to a lot of people.... hell my roadster intimidates half of my buddies because there are so many switches and knobs..... i think we can confidently say that a majority of guitar players arent the brightest pennies in the fountain..... plus a lot of the old school guys (no offense to the older members) are used to simple amps, one channel, the same old eqs, same old features.... also if you look at the money part again, if you were looking to by a new DR or TR, the roadster is slightly more $$$ but for most if you look at the extra features your getting (4th channel, reverb, loanstar cleans) its worth the 200 more you pay for the roadster over the regular DR..... i think the biggest thing for more before i got my roadster was the clean channel.... it blows away all other rectos (aside from the RK) in this dept.... $200 for an extra channel and killer cleans? no brainer
 
Well, In my case the money wasnt an object. The Roadster just seemed it would take me exactly where I wanted to go alot easier and faster than the Roadking would. I dont need 2 effects loops. I dont need an EL34 option or the progressive linkage.

I just didnt need all the hassle and added maintenance costs (extra tubes) down the road.

I like playing alot more than "tweaking".

I think the Roadking is aimed at the tweakers...
 
It's not that the RoadKing is meant to be a tweaker's amp, its that the amp is meant for and designed to nail any tone almost, if not completely, perfectly. There are obviously a few very specific and particular tones that it falls short of doing (IE: super focused Mark style) but it can still do an amazing job of it.

All the features for power selection, tube selection blah blah blah are meant to be palettes to play with. They aren't just needless options that are there to solely increase the price; these things actually increase the tonal variety that is possible from the amp very well, especially if you read the very well written manual and play loud. :lol:

I still think it's a great amp to just plug in and play some classic recto ****, but if that's all you want, you may as well just get a DR or a TR cuz the rest of the awesome features would be useless for ya.

Yep, that's me. RKI on Channel 3 with max gain and a TS808 is all I ever play. Hope they let me take the RKI with me to the old folks home when its time to go.
 
The Roadster makes the dual rec obsolete, and is the best buy for a rec. The only reason I got my Roadking was so i could mix el34's with 6l6's. And its sonic bliss. Like i said before the only thing the roadking is lacking is a vagina.

The vagina won't materialize until you mix the EL34's, the 6L6's and EL84's (On YJ's) all at the same time. It's in there, trust me!
