Faint "static" noises in my Lonestar Classic...

Very interesting... tell us more :D Is he still using a Mesa Boogie? Glad the static noises have gone...

what exactly do these amps weigh

Of course, shaving a bit of wood off either end of a normal sized head isn't going to make a huge difference to the weight... :)

    Lonestar Special 15W & 30W settings?

No, I don't remember much difference between the two other than a slight kick in power. I tended to use mine in 30w on the clean channel for the extra headroom and 5w on the lead channel for maximum overdrive.

    Amber glow

If I stand behind my amp and look at the four tubes, the one on the left glows brighter than the other three (50w selected). Do you think this is a sign of trouble? Amp sounds fine.

what exactly do these amps weigh

A seriously buggered back? The LSS is 58lb and it's a hefty lump. I'm not a 9 stone weakling and I struggled to carry mine around, hence selling it and buying a classic head. I think I'd look at something else....

Difference between new Lonestar and older versions???

I've never heard that before..... I have the later version with the 10w setting but having never heard the older version I couldn't say if there was a difference. The 10w setting never gets used on my amp though, I always run both channels at 50w.

If you didn't play a Lonestar....

Don't go thinking that because VOX are made in the UK we can get them cheap...we get screwed as well!

    Tone Confusion and Frustration

Hi JJ, Stop looking for an excuse to buy that classic! :D When I bought my Special the sound at rehearsal was sublime, but at the first show we did with it, the extra volume needed darkened the distortion and the clean headroom faded away, hence I bought the classic. The classic has that...

If you didn't play a Lonestar....

Have you heard the expression "you get what you pay for"? If I could've got something like a Lonestar for less money I wouldn't have paid £1200 for a used head! If I wanted a great amp for little money I'd look out for a 'Session Sessionette 75' on ebay, great clean and good distortion. A...

Lonestar Users; should I be one?

Well, if it suits your style of playing/music then go for it. I'm running a head with a 1x12 cab (to keep the weight down). Used to have a Lonestar special combo which was a lovely amp, but glad I made the swap to the classic/head. I have the newer version with the 10w option but to be honest...

    Lonestar hum

Don't let it put you off the Lonestar, it really is a great amp!

    Lonestar hum

I have a classic and did have a special. Both dead quiet part from the fan. Unfortunatley I have no idea what is causing your hum, but it's obviously not "normal"

    Changing strings and cheesy grins...

Well you're all making me feel better about keeping a set of strings on for so long. I was expecting everyone to say they changed theirs for every gig- which I did use to do, but not anymore. I'm lucky, my sweat isn't at all acidic so I don't even worry about wiping the strings off.

    Changing strings and cheesy grins...

I had one of those evenings at rehearsal when everything sounded so sweet, the Lonestar was purring away, and those new strings were singing. So I got to wondering how often everyone changes their strings when playing live gigs? I used to do it for every gig, but these days I tend to drag it out...

Easy way to take off front of lonestar 2x12 cab?

A chainsaw? :) Failing that, if you look closely inside you can see the screws you need to remove. If you do a search on here I think there's a post on recovering a lonestar grill and how to remove the front. I've found it: "To replace grill...you must remove all the screws holding the grill...

    Lonestar and BOSS GT-pro

I'm not using the Boss, but are the channels on different power settings? it's not uncommon for pops between channels set to different levels. Mine's worse between 10w and 50w.
