    Mark IIB and Mark IIC+

I haven't played any but, AFAIK, there are two important differences. 1) Most important, the lead channel in the C+ produces much more gain than the B. This is because the C+ uses a full 12ax7 in cascade mode meanwhile the B only uses half of a 12AX7. 2) Second important, switching noise. The...

    Open Letter to Randall Smith

I think they already made it. It's called Lonestar Special... Amazing cleans and strong distortion. Consider a Neodium Speaker if the weigh is still too much.

    power transformer color wiring

Thanks! But actually that color code doesn't match the originals. Finally I've got in contact with Mesa Boogie and they sent me the codes. Just in case someone is interested this was the answer from Mesa. This should be useful for all 60W MKI, MKII (MKIIa), MKIIb, MKIIC and MKIII with export...

    mark II query

I think my Mark IIa has a number higher than that. My bet is that is one of the very first Mark IIa. You can get a gainy clean tone and a strong crunch heavy enough for 70's metal, but not infinity sustain or saturated leads available. Also the Graph eq is quite important to the tone. Is that...

    power transformer color wiring

Hi! I have bought a PT replacement for my Mark IIa. The original is for 110V and I live in Spain, where the voltage is 220V. I have some doubts about the wiring. Is there any document were I can check the color wiring? Thanks!

    Why!!!

I agree, whenever the MarkV hits the streets, the MarkIV will gradually drop in price. There are too many out there to be a collectors item. Same happened with MarkIII, which are quite cheap now.

    Four 6v6 Wattage

Yes, that looks right. That's what I would expect. Wattage varies depending on the plate voltage, so you have to know which is the value when you set the amp to 6V6. But I think that is a very reasonable estimate.

    Four 6v6 Wattage

Based on 6V6 specs, no more than 40W.

The Mark IIA Shined Last Night

Glad you loved you Mark IIa! I think you and I are the only proud owners of MKIIa of this forum. I am loving mine more and more. At the moment I am only ussing the clean channel with the gain up to 8. Then I push the amp with a Maxon OD808 or a RAT II. I love the overdrive you get when you...

Boss FV50H for Mark IIa loop (variable gain control)

Hi! Somebody has offered me two volume pedal as part of a trade. This are Boss FV50H (high impedance input) and FV50L (low impedance). Id like try the variable gain feature plugging a volume pedal in the Effects loop of my Mark IIa. AFAIK both will do fine, could you confirm this?

    How long before>>>>>>>>

Not bad at all! Tubes suffer from heating/cooling cycles but not from being heated long periods.

    How long before>>>>>>>>

The bias of the amp doesn't set until 3-4 hours. Tech needs 3 hours of warm up to check if the bias is properly set. Also, the speaker, if new, needs some time to warm up.

My Mark IIa goes on gig tonigh

Thanks! It all went well and I really enjoyed it! The amp just behaved like it should... Until two weeks ago I was using a 18W single-channel amp with preamp gain. I have all my gear set to play this way so I only used the clean channel. I set the gain to 7, treble 7, mid 2, bass 2 and master 3...

My Mark IIa goes on gig tonigh

Just found out Mesa is discontinuing the Mark IV's…

Well, the mark IV model was born in 1991... I looks like a time for replacement. I guess Mark V is on the way.

    Greenback+ EV

Do you know this concept called "detuned cab"? It only works with closed back cabs. If yours is a closed back you may want to give it a try. A detuned cabs is a 2x12 closed back cab that only have one speaker mounted. The empty hole acts like a speaker. Is like a ported cab but the hole is not...

    1979 Mark II

I've pay for mine 450$ (about 300€) which was a chassis only (no head shell, no combo shell). The model is a 60W, eq, no reverb. It is in quite a good shape for a 30 years old amp. It only needed tube replacement.

The Mark IIa has a bias pot installed from factory!

Carlosasi, The trim pot is a blue cylindrical component that is located next to the power transformer. In the same board as the filter caps. I'll try to post some pictures. About bias adjustment, I think is a good idea to read this document. It is a bit long but is very well explained and...
