Express 5:25+ what speaker to lose the spiky brittle highs?

I switched the V30 in mine for a Texas Heat. I've had TH's before in other amps, and they've always sounded great. You can check the description from the Eminence web site, I feel that's pretty accurate. Anyway, the result was pretty much what you would expect: The spikiness of the V30 was...

    5:25+ Speaker Suggestions

I swapped the original V30 in my 5:25+ for a Texas Heat. I've used the TH in previous amps, and it's always sounded great in all of them. So it was kind of a safe bet for the Express as well. And boy, it didn't disappoint. The clean channel became more 3d-like and lush, with just a slight loss...

    Thoughts on Express 5:25+

I've had my Express 5:25 Plus combo for a couple of months now, long enough to say we're not honeymooning anymore. So I thought I'd scribble up some thoughts about it. I got mine used, and it has the original V30. First of all, the clean mode on channel one is just beautiful. I like a warm...

Getting a smoother lead tone from F-50

Thanks for the input everybody! MPenny, I've mostly been plugging my guitar straight into the amp. Glad to hear there are others who feel the same way about the 2nd channel, though. I did try the preamp tube thing. Got some nice JJ ECC81's and ECC82's. They dropped the overall volume and gain...

Getting a smoother lead tone from F-50

Ok, here's the deal... I really like the clean sound that I get out of my F-50. The OD channel is also good, especially for some crunchy distorted chords. Overall the amp sounds very musical and pleasing, and pretty much all of the tones are usable for some type of music. However, I'm having...

Mesa F100 Tone Problems - FIXED

I've only had my F-50 for a few weeks, so unfortunately I'm not able to recommend different speakers or tubes. I also don't know how similar the F-50 and F-100 are sound-wise. But I think I know what you mean when you describe the sound of the 2nd channel. It's definitely not a smooth sound on...

    Noise???

I might as well hijack this thread... I recently bought a used F-50 combo. I remember trying them out when they first came out and really liking them, but the price of a new one was just too much. Back here in Europe buying a new Mesa is a pretty big investment. But lucky for me, I now got one...
