    Mark IV vs. Stiletto ACE

Hooray! You will be happier with the real DR. I've got a Triaxis, and just learned it will not do the Recto thing. I'm looking into a Bottle Rocket to see if that helps. If not, it's back to the DR.

v-twin capable of rectifier/mark IV sounds?

Use the Power Amp output of your V-Twin. It has a lot more juice than the Guitar Amp output.

    Triaxis versions

Yep, just learned from Mesa support that my Triaxis won't do the Recto sound as I thought, but the 2:100 gets you closer to the Recto sound than the 2:90. I stand corrected. I guess this means I'll have to get a Road King after all. I'm coming from a Trem-O-Verb setup, and I used to swap the...

triaxis users.. prefer phat mod? or no phat mod?

The newest Triaxis does not have the Phat mod. My Mesa support guy told me the parts were unavailable for the latest group, so the red channel has a Mark IIc+ high gain to it. I haven't fired mine up yet ( just got it) but will know very soon.

    Triaxis V1 LD1 Red Mode,...

Just got off the phone with Mesa Support. Red mode is going to be a Mark III or IIc+ sound on the latest version, but may be a Recto sound on your version.

    Mysterious Triaxis Mod

Just discovered that my Triaxis has a push/pull inner volume knob. Mesa support tells me this is some kind of mod that was most likely performed at the factory for a Mesa artist (endorser?) judging by the serial number, but they do not know what it does. I'll fire it up later this evening to...

    Triaxis with 2:100 Amp

You also have to consider which Triaxis you are using. I just got off the phone with Mesa support, and my version, (August 2005) does NOT have the Recto preamp. Rats! Looks like I'll have to get a Road King II after all.

    Triaxis with 2:100 Amp

Keep the 2:100. It smokes the 290 as far as the Recto sound goes. Cleans have more authority, too.

    Stereo 2 one hundred question

It will definitely be louder, maybe more thump with different tubes. The nice thing about having a separate power amp is you can run it at full volume for really soaked power tubes, and control the overall volume with your preamp. I haven't done this yet, but folks tell me it's cool, and I just...

    50/50 or 2:Fifty?

Definitely go with the new one. It has the EL34/6L6 switch. Very cool.

    Little Recto's?

You're describing a Rect-o-verb. You would be the happiest with the head and a closed back cabinet. For hobbyists, you only need a 1x12, and it's still more than enough for live gigs. Any power soak would drop it down to 20 watts or so.

    295 vs 290 vs. 2:100

The 2:100 will give you the Recto sound. The 2:90 will not. Not sure about the 295.

    Triaxis versions

An important thing to remember is that the Triaxis will never sound like a Recto with the 2:90 power amp. The 2:90 has been around for a while, but the 2:100 is a completely different beast. You need the 2:100 with your Triaxis to get the Recto sound. The 2:90 uses simul-class power, which every...

    Mark IV vs. Stiletto ACE

In theory, the Stilleto Ace would be much better for you. I've owned/played a lot of Mesas, and the closed back design alone of the Ace makes me go hmmm.... I like it.

    Mesa V-twin preamp pedal

It doesn't really sound like a Recto. It's voiced for less gain. However, if you use the higher output "Power Amp" jack in the rear, you will definitely get more gain, closer to Recto territory. The only way to get a real Recto sound is to have a negative feedback loop in the power amp. Even...

V-Twin as clean preamp for jazz?

I use my V-Twin pedal for jazz all the time. Use the Guitar Amp output for jazz. It has a lower output than the Power Amp output. In fact, a couple of weeks ago I plugged my V-Twin pedal into the send/return loop of my bass player's little Ibanez solid state practice amp. The clean was...

Where To Buy New Rectifier Knobs?

I needed the inner volume knob for my Triaxis, but Mesa only sells them together. They were $16.00 shipped. That's quite a bit for a knob, but I need it.

    I'm quitting my rack!

Chris, do you use EL34s or 6L6s with your 2:90?

    best tubes for a Tremoverb?

It's been a couple of years, but I really liked the Svetlana EL34s in my T-verb. The clean headroom was gone, but the smooth/focused upper mids and highs on the clean channel was very nice for clean rock tones. The Svetlana 6L6s were also very nice. Way better than the stock Mesa tubes. I ended...

    Road King

Clips please! We want clips! Also, I played about five Series 1 RKs in my area and wasn't really impressed at all. That was about 3 years ago. After my second RK demo, I realized I had to buckle down and read the manual. I have owned a Trem-o-Verb, other Boogies, Marshalls and Fenders, so I had...
