Just have to lavish praise on my Mk lll

Just got one last night. This is my very first Mark III. Yipee!!

    Mark IV, hair metal?

For 80's lead tone I use the Mesa V-Twin pedal. There are two outputs, and I always use the hotter of the two. 80's tone to the bone with my Gibson GA-30RVS and '78 Twin Reverb. Oh yes. If you can spec a couple of high gain 12AX7s, you will kick it up another notch. Tubes make a huge difference...

stereo power amp output to a mono cab?

I was wondering about that, too. However, I have seen exposed hard wiring like this before from other 4x12 boxes. I guess the space between them is insulation enough. Since I don't have any hard wiring as in the diagrams, covered lines it is.

stereo power amp output to a mono cab?

I'm pretty sure they would. It would just cost more.

stereo power amp output to a mono cab?

I got a stereo jack plate from Mesa for my 4x12 steel grill cab. They emailed wiring instructions by way of photos. I like it that way. Sorry about the oversized photos. I'll figure out how to shrink them down to size next time. [/img]

DC-3 combo or Rectoverb Series II Combo

Yes, the Recto would be more suited to your style. I've owned two DC-3s, and they are great, but the Recto Series II is a lot more appealing to me. Every time I play one at GC I love it. You can also swap power tubes. If I ever get one, I plan on trying KT88s with the EL34 setting for more of...

Favorite cab to pair with a Tremoverb for rock?

Since you already have a Recto 2x12, why not look into ported cabinet designs? I've had 2 recto cabs, but the new ported designs give you so much more sonic territory to play on based on my A/B comparison. I'll probably go for the Port City cabinet design. I played one at NAMM, and it's a huge...

I made some Clips with the newly recapped/modded Tri-2:90

Looks like Comcast removed your clips.

Which is the better Grab-N-Go? Express 5:25 vs Fender DRRI

Mesa released a 5:25 with a 12" speaker at NAMM last week. That makes a huge difference sonically. Even in the noisey atmosphere, I could tell that the 12" speaker is a big improvement over the 10". http://mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Express/Express.htm

What preamps are you guys using........

    Triaxis + Peavey Valverb + 2:100 into a Mark III 4x12 cab.

    2:90 too powerful?

Can't you turn up the volume of the power amp while keeping the Triaxis volume down? It seems that would produce the desired effect.

Better roadster sounding with krank cabs?

I second the metal grill cab. The top rear cover is removable, which gives you nicer, louder highs for cleans, while retaining most of the Mesa lows.

    4x12 Stereo Cabinet Wiring

Thanks to Boogieman75 for reminding me of this thread. Mesa did indeed have some great wiring photos, and they didn't even charge me for the jack plate! A belated thanks to Mesa. Here are the shots: http://traveladventure.tv/mesa/412DIAG.jpg...

Triaxis - Help with Gain needed! (+ Review)

If you can't hear the difference between what we refer to as good tubes and bad tubes, then you really just can't hear the difference. Whenever anyone on this board says "I can't hear a difference", they are absolutely correct. If you can't hear a difference, you'll never have to spend a dime on...

Triaxis - Help with Gain needed! (+ Review)

I've had two Triaxis'. The first was a Guitar Center demo, and the second was a very new but used 2.0 model also from GC. The first one was used with a Fender Prosonic combo, and the second with a 2:100. With my limited experience I hereby pronounce.... Pre amp tubes make a world of difference...

Finally Found my Recto Pre Direct Tone!!!

So you run the Recto pre into an Art tube pre amp, and then to record. Yes?

Triaxis - Help with Gain needed! (+ Review)

Simple fixes: New pre amp tubes. Tung Sol has been repeated so many times in this forum for V1, we can assume it's a winner. Replace the rest with .... not sure. There's a bunch of good ones. You'll get the Mark series dynamics in living color. Trade in the 2:90 for a VHT 2/50/2. More bass...

How would a Stiletto Stack up against a Marshall JCM 900 SLX

To compare apples to apples, you'd have to compare the Ace head to the JVM head. In such a contest, the Ace would smash the new JVM. I've done the A/B with both, and the Ace is mo' better. As far as JVM combo vs. Ace combo, I haven't compared, but I'm pretty sure I would prefer the Ace combo.

4xEL34 based simul class power amp?

Try a VHT 2/50/2. It's not simul class, but it does have a Class A switch, and the tone definitely fattens up the Triaxis and JMP-1 quite nicely. Check the VHT 2/50/2 reviews on Harmony Central for a zillion comparisons.

Anyone Using a Thiele Cab w/ Their Road King?

Fredacabs.com has some really nice ported designs. Their designs are based on this book: http://www.londonpower.com/books/spkr.htm They had some pretty good video clips of their cabs in action a while ago. Hopefully they'll put them back up.
