i am buying new tubes now

Do you have an amp tech near you? It might be worth your time and money to have them look at it if you don't have spare tubes sitting around.

    Lonestar Classic Advice wanted.

LSC is a great amp, if you like the sound, then you should get it. If you really want to stick with the .50 cal, you could always get another .50 cal and A/B the two amps -- then you have your sound for either "channel". It is a lot to haul around though.

    Boogies from China

Quoting myself: "It shouldn't even have the Mesa name on it, it would be styled similar but branded "Petaluma" or something. (couldn't call them Randall, hehehe)" Some brands have been able to successfully create a dual identity (for the most part) Fender/Squier, Gibson/Epiphone, PRS/SE The...

moving to a small appartment but i need tone too

I own a Tonelab and practice with AKG 240 headphones on -- its good for low-medium gain tone. To my ears, the high gain stuff isn't really believable. If you're unhappy with your Pod 2.0, the Tonelab probably won't do much for you. If money is no option, try a mark iv in silent recording...

    Boogies from China

Wow! very interesting responses thus far -- seems like the board is all about keeping production domestic. A while back, I read this article (another catalyst for my post) http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/102/open_snapper.html Mesa probably reads this board (hi mesa!!). Mesa could refer to...

    Boogies from China

A recent post mentioned VOX, nowadays they are making the new amps in China for an extremely low cost and selling them in the US for $1000. Devil's advocate time -- I think Mesa Boogie ought to explore creating a valued priced amp made in China or elsewhere. Pro Net $449 Simple controls...

    Express 5:25 Bass channel two

Try an EQ pedal either before your amp or in the effects loop. Don't over-do it.

Chicago Area Mark4 seekers, found one

Kudos to Hix Their new store in Aurora (outside of fox valley shopping mall) is loaded with great premium gear. Stores like this (compared to Guitar Center) are the place to go; especially with pro-net pricing. This new store is not to be confused with the old Hix aurora location on...

    boost pedal for express 5:50

try putting the boost (or Boost+EQ) in your effects loop. (BTW, most active EQ pedals can do some boosting, passive EQ pedals only selectively decrease frequency ranges)

Any suggestions for a great wah pedal for the Express 5:50

Some ramblings: Dunlop makes the 535Q wah which has an adjustable range. http://www.jimdunlop.com/index.php?page=products/pip&id=274 Fulltone "clyde" wah http://www.fulltone.com/CSW.asp Ernie Ball just released a wah pedal...

    Tube swap in Express 5:50

So.. 6L6 to 6L6 = yes (duh!!) 6L6 to EL34 = no (oh well) 6L6 to EL84 = yes with THD Yellowjacket Converter (cool!! someone try it and let us know!!, I'm curious) 6L6 to 6V6 = ??? (The Lonestar Classic manual says you can use 6V6 tubes if you use 4 tubes and an 8 ohm speaker in the 4 ohm...

    Express 5:50 and OD pedals

For what its worth, I own a 5:50 1x12 and occasionally use a Seymour Duncan "pickup booster" pedal set between 6 and 16 db, sometimes followed by an Ernie Ball VP JR volume pedal. This isn't an OD pedal per se, but it pushes the amp nicely. Its more of a subtle sound. Occasionally I put an...

    F-30 or Express 5:25

+1 to the express. The F-30 is a nice amp too. Especially if you can get one used.

    Compare a LSC to a 5:50 Express

I had a LSC head and 2x12 cabinet and sold it for a 5:50 1x12. I don't play much right now and I wanted something that would go from 1-10 in terms of gain. The LSC goes from 1-6 better than the EXP goes from 1-6, but the EXP goes from 6-10. The LS really sounds nice, and offers great...

    about the express series?

The question is if the 25 and 50 have similar (if not identical) preamp circuitry. If they do, then the comparison is only between 6L6 and EL84 power sections. My guess is that the preamp sections are very similar -- why would anyone design two totally different amps and brand them in a...

    Express 5.25 finally arrived!

5:50 1x12 is my second mesa. I had a LSC head and 2x12 cabinet, a great amp but barely usable volume in an apartment or condo. LSC is a great amp but I just didn't need such a big amp. I thought about keeping the LSC and getting an Ace, but I decided that my playing habits (no more band, and...

Traded a LSC head and 2x12 for an Express 5:50 1x12

I understand -- it was a tough decision for me too. For me, it came down to a matter of wanting a smaller amp, wanting a more versatile amp, wanting less clutter in my place, and as a bonus: getting a brand new amp.

Traded a LSC head and 2x12 for an Express 5:50 1x12

Hi folks, first time posting :D I'm not usually one to downgrade my stuff but I don't play out much anymore and wanted a fun amp that would be apartment friendly. I know in terms of dollars I may have lost out a bit but I'm really happy with the Express 5:50 combo, it sounds nice at 5 watts...
