Jekyll & Hyde OR Son of Hyde??

Here's what I can tell you given my experience with visual sound products. I have used a J and H but own a Route 66 which is essentially the Jekyll (tube screamer) side plus a compressor. Review after messing with the thing for a long time: I didn't like it stock at all and maybe the issue is...

Is it worth it to trade my older LSC for the new one?

I don't know. I own a classic 212 and have played the newer ones. Maybe it would different at a gig, but the 10 watt mode didn't knock me over enough to change. It's not perfect but as others have said, I do fine for practices and smaller gigs at 50 watts on the tweed power setting. Mark Mark

Is Lonestar good for music like STP, Jimmy Eat World, etc

I have owned Fenders (siverface and blackface) and agree. The Lonestar Classic has the headroom that the twin has but--way more flexibilty and touch response that I never had with a fender--even cranked (and who the hell could do that and live to hear again when it was a cranked twin). Channel...

Converting a combo to a head

Amazing stuff. What does he charge? Is it less then the cabs from Mesa? Mark

Just thought I would share my rig with you guys!

I like the Visual sound stuff as well. I own a Route 66 (first generation) that I had modified a bit by a guy in CA. Did you actually get to meet Johnny Hiland. He seems like a great guy and he is an awesome player. Mark

    Non Mesa 2X12 cab?

Framus makes good stuff. I saw a band recently where one of the guy was playing through a Framus rig. The way he had it set up, it sounded like a Boogie. Mark

    LSS tube rattle

Actually I think lots of people have the same issue with combo amps. I had brand new JJ tubes and it seemed worse so I called Eurotubes. They have a paper on their web site about "tube torture" in combo amps. He says it just happens and is not necessily a reflection on the health of the tube...

    Non Mesa 2X12 cab?

Actually I would recommend Avatar cabinets. They have a pretty complete line and lots of options and from what I've seen they have great prices compared to other options. I don't own one by a friend of mind owns several and speaks really hightly of them. They were reviewed pretty positively as...

Let's see your "Pig rig" pics (Lonestars)

It is interesting how things have changed or me as well. I used to be a neck and middle pickup player exclusively, then I did a pickup swap with a Rio Grande bridge I started using the bridge maybe 20% of the time. However, with my LS I tend to play 80-90% of the time on the bridge. It is just...

Drive knob higher than Gain knob?

You know, I actually never tried this until I read this thread. I just did a gig Sat. night and liked how my amp sounded, but decided to experiment anyway. I took the drive up to about 2:00 and brought the gain down to 10:00 and...wow! It changes things considerably and as others have said, it...

Converting a combo to a head

You mentiod George...does he make cabinets? Anyone else know of other options (i.e. people who specialize in cabinets that fit a Lonestar head, etc.? Mark

Converting a combo to a head

Any ideas on how much a "ton" might be? It might be worth it. Mark

Converting a combo to a head

I have read some posts where people have pulled the head, put it into a seperate head cab and either modified the remaining combo cab somehow or used another external. Man...after hauling the blue pig up and down countless stairs and onto stages, etc. etc. I am tempted. Does Mesa sell seperate...

EL34s in my LSC 10/50/100 (woot!)

I haven't seen a problem as far as reliability either. I use JJ E34Ls in my LSC and love what it did for me. As others have said, channel 2 seems cleaned up a bit and I seem to have a tighter bottom in and a glassier midrange. Mark

Let's see your "Pig rig" pics (Lonestars)

You get the picture after lugging one of these thangs up and down a basement stairs or up a back staircase of a club a few times. Playing through a Mesa combo builds strong bodies in many ways! The tone is so worth it though. Mark

Whats your favorite pedal with the Lonestar?

None actually. Although I do have a modified first geneation Visual sound rt. 66 that I use occasionally. I do really, really like that straight honk from the amp though. Mark

    Tube Change

Well said, Matt. That's exactly what I found. I love the way channel 2 sounds. There is a bit more midrange and it took a bit of dinking around to come up with a nice mid level and voice setting. I have my mids at about 10 o' clock now and I actually like the thicker setting for the stage. The...

    Tube Change

I love it. I use JJ E34Ls. They seem to help solidify the low end a bit. As far as cleans, you won't notice that difference. It's not like the amp suddenly becomes a heavy metal machine on all channels or something--That kinda sound is not really what this amp does. On the other hand I love the...

    Lonestar v1 settings

That tends to be what I do as well. I tend towards Les Pauls and LP style guitars. A bit more treble helps, especially to mix in the neck pickup. What kind of tubes/guitars are you using? Mark
