    Latest Carvin Guitar Build Quality

I think Carvin is a great company as others have said. The guitars I have played seemed excellent and reasonably priced. As others have said, bridge pickups were not really my taste, but for wood and build of that quality and money...that is an easy thing to fix. Their amps are good as well. I...

band drama....if the music isnt worth the drama or.....

In short...no. Sounds like you have the makings of another band--your brother and the drummer. Go for it. Nothing is worth that kind of headache and I promise you will regret it if you don't try and WILL regret it if you do nothing. I have been in more situations like that then I can count. Most...

    RETURN OF THE DRUMMER

Man I feel for ya...been there. I just got rid of a singer that just couldn't cut in at all in any respect. She his a "nice voice" but a knowlege of music 1/8" deep and a mile wide--no depth, no focus, no heart, irritating personality traits, controlling as hell and equally lacking in real...

Anybody here live in or near Tennessee?

:) I was just in TN on vacation and noticed one thing...there are very few shops that sell or service electric instruments in E. TN. Maybe it's the whole mountain music, country legacy thing, but I thought it was odd. Several acoustic dealers with some nice axes, but not much beyond that. I was...

    Any singers out there?

I recently went from being the guitar player who sang a couple of songs a night to...the singer. First motivation, a pain in the butt singer that I decided to fire. Second motivation...well I never thought of the voice as an instrument OR that I really even had one and decided to find out. My...

    LSC Settings

I noticed the settings also. I have had my treble up that high in the past and sort of liked it...but with the presense down around 11:00 (it adds some compression too). I do use a relatively dark sounding guitar also (LP style mahogany body w/ Rio Grande pickups which tend to be on the thick...

    Sorry, but more gibson insight

Anyone tried the Collings LP "copies?" They look nice and well built (Collings makes great guitars with an attention to detail) and seem to really be a stab at the market of dissatisfied Gibson players that want a quality axe, are willing to pay for one and want "that tone." Mark

    Sorry, but more gibson insight

This is a really interesting thread. A few years ago I made transition from Strats to LP style guitars and then a PRS (a cheaper model, but a pretty good sounding axe with P90s which I really dig). I just decided after much struggle with Strats ( owned several) that the sound I was really...

    Classic

EL34s vs. 6L6s: I really think this amp does American tone well. It's not a "british" voiced amp with either tube type. My issue is overkill on the mids with this amp. This may have been done purposefully to balance single coil guitars (not sure), but it can get out of hand with Les Pauls, etc...

    5 Favorite guitar tones:

Alright some different stuff then has been mentioned for the most part: Bluesbreakers era Clapton Rio Grande Mud era Billy Gibbons Paul Kossoff (pretty much everything) Greg Martin (Kentucky Headhunters, Rufus Huff, Mighty Jeremiahs...a way, way under rated player) Peter Frampton (a serious and...

    Classic

It is possible to go the 6V6 route and even (I didn't know this before joining this forum) EL84s if you use a yellow jacket adaptor. Both of these will change the sound of the amp somewhat, but allow a bit lower volume. Personally I use JJ Tubes and order them from Eurotubes. Tell them you use a...

    lonestar tones

Some other good suggestions here. Keep the LP though. I'm not a big burstbucker fan either though (if that's what's in there). I have Duncan in the neck and a Rio Grande in the Bridge--a great mix of tones and works very well with the LS. As far as settings, I run my ch.1 pretty hot and ride...

    Classic

Welcome to the board. I own a 212 LSC combo. I play rock, blues, funk, etc. on big and small stages and run everything, all the time on the 50 watt setting (both channels) and on the "tweed" voltage setting. One band I play in tends towards mellower, low volume stuff (Crosby, Still, Nash, Paul...

    Lonestar classic with EL34 tubes?

Haven't. Think about it occasionally, but seem to have found the mojo by dropping my gain way down and cranking the drive. It changes the amp. On the other hand, my issue with E34Ls was more with channel 1 really. It just never had the sparkle, even with the mids dropped and the treble up fairly...

    Billie Gibbons Tone LSS ?????

I agree. Billy's tone was unbelievable in the early days and those early shows were smokin. When I think Billy, I think Tres Hombres actually too--Pearly Gates into an old Plexi OR maybe one of his older strats (the tone on Blue Jean Blues was the reason I originally tried playing a Strat and...

    LSC Settings

I suppose you could add EQ, but why? With gain high this amp is hugely mid heavy and muddy. With the drive high (I acually keep gain as low as 10:00 and crank the drive to 3 or 4:00) it seems to even things out and allow a bit better, more logical use of the other tone controls. Mids can still...

    Billie Gibbons Tone LSS ?????

The drive channel is tricky. I love the Rev. as well. Ya gotta have a Paul man or something with a lot of thick Mahogany. The key to getting a good, thick (but not to thick) classic tone like Gibbons on this amp channel is to lower your gain and crank the drive. Dial the mids no higher then...

    Lonestar classic with EL34 tubes?

I tried it (JJ E34Ls actually which add a bit tighter low end). With a Les Paul I just struggle with two much mid range and couldn't seem to dial it out for some of the gigs I was doing. I really feel this amp is made for 6L6s, especially if you play humbucker guitars. Going with a higher end...

How can I make a LSC Channel 2 Cut through the mix more?

As others have said, this is a dark amp, probably set up somewhat to enhance single coils. Normal kinds of amp settings don't seem to work well. I just had to get used to what I had and am really digging it now. I also am a Les Paul/humbucker or P90 guy. I did experience a bit of what you...
