Hey guys. I scored a Mesa ED combo. The amp is crazy dark and muffled until treble and presence are past 2:00. I've seen many youtube clips with everything on 5 that sound great. Mine sounds like the tone on my guitar is rolled all the way back. I've replaced tubes and no change. One thing i...
Just got a multi watt recto. I notice when i set the exact same settings on channel 2 and 3 (only tried it on the RAW mode) that channel 3 is quieter and a little darker. They are both on 100 watt with silicone diode. Has anyone else noticed this? I was under the understanding that on the new...
It actually ended up being a tube. Although they are new, the Tungsol in V1 was faulty. After replacing it all the noise was gone. I found the amp way more responsive and a nicer , open midrange character by jumping the 3 resistors but I think i'll still try to change the presence pot's just...
So now i notice that in vintage or modern on both channels there's a strange noise i've never noticed before. Almost an oscillating with morse code type taps in it. It's not near as noticeable with the gain below 5. It's also on RAW but hard to hear as the gain is quite low. It also seems...
I just did the above changes with jumpering the resistors and removing the cap/resistor and cap. I did the jumpers first and then removing the cap/resistor. I noticed a great change with just jumpering the resistors. More open and a little more bite. I removed the other circuit and the...
I think I'll start with just jumping those 3 resistors and see what happens. I really only use the amp in the raw modes on both channels so I also don't want to make it too bright either
I find in the 2nd channel I can dime the presence with little effect. I'm just wanting to lose the perceived "blanket" that I hear over the amp. So you recommend leaving the 2M 82pF circuit as is?
Awesome! I'm going to do this as well. I don't want any more gain though so I think I'll leave the gain pots as is. Do you think there's still a benefit to change the presence pot if I rarely use the modern mode? Also, how did you jumper those resistors? Just clip them off and solder a...
Great info jdurso.....thanks. Yeah, i'm more of a crunch tone kinda guy. i like dimed plexi's, JCM 800's etc. I find vintage pretty compressed on a recto and modern too scooped. RAW is perfect. It's pretty dark but i run the treble at 3:00 so that livens it up. I was debating grabbing a...
