I bought a Boss GT-1000 recently and somebody said I should plug my guitar straight into the amp and put the GT through the effects loop (so I can still get the Boogie sound)

But I've seen a few diagrams on different ways to connect and they all show the guitar going into the GT

It works fine for the most part but I'm getting some weird sounds from a couple of effects and wondering if the AIRD technology doesn't cater for the unit being connected this way. It doesn't make the noise connected any other way

I can't find answers from Googling, just get instructions on how to connect other pedals to the GT

Any thoughts or experience would be great, cheers

So you’ve connected it like this? GT10 image but same principle 🤔 and fx loop enabled in the GT and also in amp?

I don’t have neither of these equipment but have had Roadster with GT-10 and hardest thing to manage was the levels in loop 🤔 whilst one channel master was bumped a bit all presets had to be balanced again…

4CM - Four Cable Method is what you may want to consider. This link covers the approach in some detail. There are multiple YT vids that cover it also. This will give you flexibility in selecting the onboard GT Amp models or the amps preamp.

It's possible to run the GT exclusively in the amps fx loop, however how the patch is setup would not be typical.

Hi, thanks for your reply
No I have the guitar going straight to the amplifier Input

Basically connecting the GT the way you would connect an overdrive or delay into effects loop, using the Input and L/Mono channels. If you delete blue and green and take the red line to Send on amp, guitar to input on amp

I stole this diagram from somewhere and its just like this except a GT instead of a Delay

In that case I suggest using not using the GT input. Use the GT return and setup the send/return block. You may need to adjust the levels of the block to match signal level.

Thanks for that, although I tried the 4 cable method and I'm sure I still got some unwanted noise, but I will try it again

It seems to me that the GT should not be connected the way I have done but they don't tell you that. There are numerous videos showing how to do things and this one I think is good

Yea, well I have a GT-100, run the 4CM and have spent a great deal of time tuning patches. There's alot of knobs to twist in the signal chain, noise gates can help with noise, but where they are placed in the chain matters. Can you describe the "unwanted noise"? Does it change with gain levels?

Yes sure

I got a loud howling noise when connected into the Send/Return loop when using patch 04-4 or any patch with AC GUITAR SIM+TRANSPARENT AMP - anything else is okay

Connected any other way including 4 cable method I get an excessive string buzz sound on the high strings

If I change the AIRD output to LINE/PHONES it sounds better even though I'm going through a tube amp

The string buzz goes away if I turn off AC GUITAR SIM or TRANSPARENT AMP (probably does change with gain setting)

By the way in the video above (at ~ 2 minutes) he says in some patches you might want to turn the AIRD preamp off because you're running two preamps and will get unwanted noise, and I think that is the issue. Its funny though that any other amp sounds okay. He also says things about gain

I hope thats the end of my problem

Something else which is a bit funny, once I get the weird noises it seems to linger on. What I mean is even though I change to correct settings its still kind-of there. But come back then next day and go straight to the right settings it is fine

Line should be used when connecting to fx-loop (if I remember correctly 😂)

And if you’re using the GT ext loop then just bypass all preamp modes 🤔

There are so many things!

I just logged back on to add what I find works best for patch 04-4 (with its Accoustic Guitar Simulator) is a Solid State amp

following up on Eevil's last one... Now I don't have a GT-1000 or Core but if you are using a GT user preset patch I'm going to assume it is not one setup for 4CM. To adapt to 4CM turn on the send/return block and turn off the GT's preamp and see if that doesn't change things.

Yes... this has a learning curve, but well worth it.

That was the last thing I was messing around with last night and I couldn't figure anything out. No matter what I did the controls on the Rectoverb still did nothing. I think once you plug something into the Send/Return on my amp it cuts the preamp out (nothing to do with the GT)...

EDIT...Well that was wrong, I just tried it again and the Send/Return worked and I have the Mesa Boogie sound! Not that I want crunchy gain for an acoustic guitar, its just that sometimes while you're learning about one thing you learn something else

I use the digitech rp1000 configured in the 4 cable method on my Mark5 and all the rest of my amps. never had a issue

Just seen a video that says all acoustic simulators sound crap, so turn off the speaker simulators! I'm scratching my head, wouldn't that be the same as turning off the amp simulators?

Nope. Speaker and amp simulation are different things.

Amp amplifies small signals to big signals and speaker converts electrical signals to sound waves 😁

How about input your instrument to GT1000. Output your GT1000 left/mono to return jack on amp.
Insert dummy plug in send jack on amp. 1/4" plug no wires.
Use GT preamps.
So you bypass the preamp on your amplifier.
I used my Lonestar like this for several rehearsals and it worked very well for GT preamps and effects.
Its been a while but it was easy setup and the sounds/tone was very good. I had to tweak the GT for the guitar.

Interesting but what does the dummy plug do? Plugging into the Return on amp is how I usually connect and that bypasses the Boogie preamp
