The only other amp i'd play besides (or with) a Mesa, but the only way to aquire them is to have twice as much money as needed to buy a Mesa Half Stack! Slightly depressing, but maybe one day...............

i once tried a VH4 in a store and i can tell you i've never heard a tube amp sounding so good at very low volumes. You can get a full and saturated distortion even at bedroom volumes... probably this is the reason for which some people say it sounds like solidstate...and i must say vh4's got actually a slightly different feeling comparing to other all-tube amps, its a thing you can feel while trying this amp...and i'm not saying it's a bad thing! This said, probably you won't find so many usuable tones on higher gain settings, just the fundamental ones for metal and hardrock and maybe a few more, but definitely i think it's not as versatile as a MarkIV... even if the sounds you get are really amazing. The clean channel doesn't seem to have its own character like the high-gain ones, it is more like hi-fi clean, not that vintage breakup-treshold clean tone...however i really like it, it's also very deep and warm and sparkling if you want. i also think it's quite easy to get a good sound out of a vh4 immediately.

Probably because he says it is a rare "original" model....someone just may fall for it.

I haven't had the chance to try one of these yet, but I can't wait till I bump into one. All plans will be cancelled.

i'm quite sceptical about this story of the "rare" and original model... never heard of such a quality worsening about Diezel production... and, maybe i'm wrong, the very first vh4 models had a blue front plate instead of the dark grey one...don't remember if the one i tried had the blue or the grey plate
