I have a 1987x plexi reissue for trade loaded with mullard el34 is in the power section and JJ 12ax7 teslas in the preamp. This is a good combination for this type of amp. Usually JJ 12ax7 are a little to dark for me, but they sound great in this head. They add a Chewiness to the tone. It is a very warm sounding head. I re-tubed it a while ago, but after it got a fresh set of bottles I got a jmp. So this head was just sitting in my house looking pretty. It is loud as hell! I believe this amp was produced in 1994, it is very clean and in excellent shape. It is a perfect starting platform for modification, but it does sound great on its own. This amp is by no means a high gain monster. It does whoever take pedals really well, and will provide you with a great warm clean tone that you can stack pedals in front of to get whatever sound you please. As long as you are not cranking the amp into saturated tones your time based effects like delay will sound fine. I was using this head with an OCD overdrive out front, and a giga delay and it sounded great. It really does an excellent clean, and with the channels jumpered (Not that it is a big deal but i will include the jumper cable just because I wouldn't play this head any other way) you can real get a big bottom end. It provides the woody mid range marshall is known for when it is at Madison Square Garden volume. My reason for trading/selling is that i t got a Jmp 2204 Clone that has more gain, and really an excellent clean as well, so I want another flavored amp or guitar. I am Looking for mesa lonestar classic combo/or stiletto combo. Let me know what you have maybe we could work something out. I would consider selling it if you give me a serious offer. I drive so I can meet you somewhere.
