I have had an Express 5:50 2x12 for several months and have been very pleased with it at home. However this weekend I got a chance to use it in a full band setting and man was I surprised. This thing blew everyone there away with the tone! I used my Strat Plus with Lace Golds and the tone was incredible. The Express really cuts thru the mix and the notes have great clarity. The other guitarist said my amp was on another level than his Marshall JCM 900 (this was a great compliment comming from him he never gives compliments LOL). If a MarkV or Lonestar sounds better I would have to hear it for myself because Im telling you this is a great amp! I have had or played thru just about every vintage amp (Plexi, Deluxe Reverb, Super, JCM800, Mark1) but have never had such a well rounded amp with what I think is the best cleans availible from any amp to some of the best overdrive/gain money can buy from amp alone. BTW the burn channel sounds excellent when used as a solo sound!

Hi,

I've got a 1/12 5:25 with an additional 1/12 cabinet and think the same thing. This light weight wonder is just amazing. I have gotten tons of compliments on how it sounds.

I have a LSS as well. I am still not sure which I like the best.

Great story, can't wait until I get to post one just like it!

My band and I love my 5:50! It's warm yet cuts through the mix very well. I've used it in basement jams, outdoor BBQs and parties and in clubs. It never fails to impress me!

I bought a 5.50 and it had a fault soI took it back and I saved up more money and bought a LONESTAR 2x12 CLASSIC as I was only buying a 5.50 as a poor mans Lonestar BUT........
The Lonestar was NOT as good in my opinion, the sound was BETTER with the 5.50, a lot of the extra stuff on the lonestar wasn't needed and I found it just a novelty, switching this and that rectifiers etc just mean't the back was just full of glass and tube rattle was terrible!!!!
The tones were not as good, the overdrive was rank.
I sent it back and bought another EXPRESS 5.50.

YES the BOOGIE's ARE in another league to Marshall of course, Marshall are everyday amps here in the UK, they have always been the basic no frills rock amp, Mesa has got the BOUTIQUE' Kudos even if they are NOT anymore they still have the wow factor and are up there in the same league as Bogner, Soldano etc. Marshall are not BUT if you want that earthy classic rock sound forget the boogies and all the high end stuff, nothing will give you that RAW rock sound like a Marshall. I mean the sound of the late 60's and 70's rock like Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Deep Purple, Robin Trower, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, and all the 100's of those type classic rock bands. I would like a Marshall to get that sound one day but Boogie suits me for what I need all round better.

I like the lonestars and made sure I tested one before I took home an express. The Lonestar was slightly better, could have just been the 2x12 vs the 1x12 in the express. Not worth the extra weight and money for me.

Just don't try an Electadyne. The ED is definately a good step up.

I've got a 5:25 Express w/1x10" and a 1x12" extension cab.
We play mostly blues/rock type stuff and we haven't played any where that required the extension cab yet. I have the amp on a tilt back amp stand that is elevated a little. It really helps with the sound projection and being able to see the knob settings.
I mostly use the blues setting for my rhythm tone and the crunch for leads.
I really do like the clean setting for straight blues, too!
I very impressed w/ the overall sound quality and versitility of the Boogie.
Since my stadium playing days are over (ha!ha! ) this little Boogie is the only amp I need!
