Would my Revision F recto take a preamp into the fx return?

If anyone knows anything about the Revision F line, would I be able to run a preamp into the fx return and bypass the amp's preamp section? It'd be awesome if I could use the Bold/Spongy and rectifier selection options with a preamp.

Furthermore, if I were to use a footswitch to toggle the amp's fx loop on and off, would I basically be switching between the Recto's preamp section when the loop is off, and the external preamp when the loop is on? Granted I'd also need to have an A/B switch set up and run A into the Recto input and B into the other preamp's input. Then when I switch I'd have to hit the fx loop toggle AND the A/B toggle. Would this work?

Yep, you have the right idea. It will work exactly like that on a series loop.

If you had a parallel loop, you would still be bleeding throught the Recto when you are trying just to go thru the preamp.
