Plugged a pair of Winged C 6l6's and a pair of El34's into my simulclass Mark IIB yesterday. It seems to have more gain/grind than my other Booigies which are 60/100 rather than simulcalss. Could the tubes be not biased right for my Booige or is it expected in a Simulclass version.

BTW the 6l6 had 17/2.0 written on the top of the box. the EL34 have 22/4.1 on the box. What do these numbers mean with regard to matching and are they about right for a Boogie?

Thanks

The 17 and 22 are the current draw at the plate voltage they were tested. Most tube vendors only test at 400 volts, but a few test at higher voltages. The 2.0 and 4.1 are how close they are matched in relation to the transconductance. 5% is very good and both of those sets are closer than 5%.

Hope this helps!

The SED (Winged C's) are exceptional sounding and performing tubes.

I always recommend that you have your amp biased to the tubes....regardless of the amp manufacturer. This "fine tunes" your amp for the best performance and tone.

The difference that you are hearing from the new to the old tubes can be the difference in the actual tube construction as well as the transconductance and current draw.
