I'm about to pick up a Mark V head and I'm wondering which 212 cab sounds best with the Mark V? In the store I prefered the overall voice of a 112 C90 compact cab they had better than a 212 Vertical Recto cab the head was sitting on, but I liked the lows of the Recto cab better. The V30s in the Recto cab seemed to make everything sound brighter and not as smooth, kind of spiky. Could have been the new V30s though. I'm thinking I want a 212 but which Mesa cab? open or closed back, V30 or C90s, what do you like best with the Mark V for maximum versatility?

I use a 2x12 horizontal recifier cab with my V and am very happy with it. The recot cabs take a little bit to get broken in but once they do the spikes really smoothen out. You can also try installing the "pre-broken in" hellatone speakers from avatar in your cab.

cheers,
Supreeth

I am using a pair of 2x12 cabs from LOPO, they are loaded with vintage 30s. I am very pleased with their sound and price. My first choice would be Bogner cabs, but they are too pricey for me.

What do you guys think of the Recto vertical 212? I went back to the store this afternoon and spent a little more time with the Mark V through the 212 Vert, and I'm starting to warm up to it. Either that or I've played it enough now for the speakers to start breaking in :)

Friend of mine has a Vert 2x12 and it is one of the best sounding Mesa cabs I've heard. It makes any amp sound awesome IMO. He runs his DR through it. I've run my DC-3 and a Nomad through it before and they all sounded great. He's actually got a Mark V on the way so i'll get to hear it through this cab as well...

I use a 2x12 Mesa Recto vert. with the "Helltone" V30's from Avatar and love it. Especially with the top speaker being angled up. And, it's nice to use a 2x12, and have your amp sitting high enough up to where it's easy to adjust things.

Does the MV head fit on the vert 212 cab?

I just built a cab to the exact same specs/dimensions as the Mesa 2X12 Vertical cab, only changes I made were:

1) I put one V30 and one G12T-75
2) Both speakers are 8OHMS so I wired the cab to 16OHMs (I plug it into my 8OHM jack of my V Head)

Sounds amazing, tight, punchy and clear as hell!

My suggestion would be to buy the 2X12 Vertical and try and swap one of the V30's for a G12T-75 - it will help balance the harshness of the V30.

Closed back if you play metal - no question. If not it depends on what style tone your after?

I'm thinking of getting the Mesa TQ 2x12 and loading it with Scumback H75, V30s.

I really like how these cabs sound for the mix of open/closed back tones.
