do you have to have a power amp connected? Speakers?

I recently got Revalver MK II for recording quick ideas. However, the M-Audio Preamp I use to connect my guitar to the PC doesn't have a level control so my signal hitting the sound card is too hot. I thought I would run my Studio Pre's recording out to the DMP-3 preamp instead. This way, I'd have a level control on my signal before it hits the card.

If you're interested, I recorded the clips called "Ascesa" and "Death Rally Theme" with my Studio Pre connected straight to the soundcard line-in (using recording outs obviously), no poweramp/cab connected

Those are real nice! Did you use a cab sim in your DAW?

thanks CudBucket, no I didn't use any cab sim... it seems to me there even wasn't any post equalization. I'm quite happy with those clips, except for the noise.

I have always said that the Studio Preamp recording outs sounded way better than any POD and ytse_jam's song "Ascesa" proves my point.

Nicely done.

thanks a lot for the kind words zeeman! Imho POD's direct outs sound quite sterile and thin when it comes to overdriven tones... you can still get some decent tones but you can't do miracles. Some of the clean tones are really good however. But I've heard a good sounding POD only when used with a tube poweramp through a real cab and then mic'ed, that's it.
With the Studio pre you've got less versatility for sure (specially with those recording outs you won't get a nasty scooped metal tones unless you use some additional cab sim or equalizer, imho they're maybe too much smooth and juicy!) but the tone is 100% there, you can't compare it with a POD.

I'm going to try the Studio pre into my DAW and then throw some cab sim on it as well. I've heard some folks have had amazing results with that.
