Hi everybody:

Ok, I want to buy a brand new guitar and a brand new (if possible) amplifier. I have saved about US$3000 until now and since I have a bussines trip to Montreal next week I want to buy it there. Any advise from a canadian would be of great help for a venezuelan friend ;)

I'm a Ibanez lover so I'm looking for a RG-1527 or something better. I play mostly progressive and heavy metal stuff: Dream Theater, Angra, Symphony X... so it needs to be a fast, light and good looking guitar.

I'm also a Mesa\Boogie lover looking for Mark IV... but since i can't afford one of those (i could if I were only buying the amp, but this is definitly not the case), a single rectifier combo would be enough. It needs to be a combo because I don't have room to spare and don't want the police to be knocking my door everyday.

I would prefer to buy everything in a store instead of buying it from ebay (believe me, it's a pain in the a$$ for me to bring it back home this way), but... I listen to any recommendations from you :). Thanks in advance.

Why can't you buy a mark IV? It only costs 1800 new. (well now it's out of production.)

I would wait till the Mark V comes out and have it shipped to your country.

If you're going to buy an RG1527, you should get it from Rich at ibanezrules.com. He has one for sale now, unless his page isn't up to date (which it often is):

i say buy whatever guitar you want and then look for a used mark IV. Check the classifieds on this board they pop up once in a while.

Mark 4 and a Single Rectifier are two VERY DIFFERENT amps!! Make sure you know what you're getting into before you plunk down the money! A MarkIV is much better suited to your musical tastes. I would personally see what I could get in the used market, at least amp-wise. The guitar is a little more personal and it's good to play the one you'll buy.

Yeah the Mark IV is definitely in your price range with enough left over for a nice guitar.

+1, there's no reason why you couldn't afford a Mark IV and a really nice guitar to go with it.

I dare you to check out the ESP horizon NT II. Amazing build quality stunning looks and sounds out of this earth. Very versatile guitar with two humbuckers that can be split into single coils via push/push volume knob.

The MkV, if it ever comes to exist, would be a better match to your musical styles than a Recto of any sort would be, especially since the MkIV is Petrucci's amp of choice, and before that he used a couple MkIIC+'s (though he did use a Road King for an album or two).
As for the guitar, going off of the fact you mentioned the 1527 which is a 7 string, I'd say the 1527 is nice, but for that kind of money a Carvin DC727/747 would be a better value. Neckthrough, arguably better tonewoods, tons of choices. All starting at around what a 1527 costs.

Hey Hermano, que passa?? :D bienvenido al Boogieboard! 8)

imho you should look for a used MKIV, as you can save 700 bucks and can put it on a spare gtr, like a Gibson LP Vintage Mahogany. trust me, a mahogany type gtr sounds MARVELOUS through a MK series amp :p

and im almost sure you'll leave the Ibz on the closet . . .

Now that I have learnt my lesson I will wait for the Mark V and then I will wait a bit longer for the Mark V Stage II 8)
