I somehow lucky enough to buy a Fender Stratocaster from someone not too long ago. But I soon found out that this strat was from 1979-1981

Can Any one tell me the value of this guitar now?

I want to sell it.

Here are some pictures:

how much did you pay for it?

Honestly the pickups are new pickups. They look like Lace Sensors. They are not the original pickups. The pickguard is not original also. The paint job looks almost like somebody stripped it and repainted it themselves with that flat finish. It looks like it wasn't sanded that great either before the paint was applied. I can see the grain of the wood.

What I think you have is a late 70's neck and body that has been a project guitar for somebody.

As to how much it's worth? That's a tough one. I don't think you are going to get tons of money like I suspect you are hoping to because you heard that vintage strats sell for a lot.

Yea They are like a new Fender Lace Sensor set.
So far I was offered 500 for it. I think I will take it.
I don't like strats to much, even though this one sounds and plays pretty amazingly.
The body is really heavy and cant support it for more than half an hour before my back hurts.

Thanks for Replying

For a player, $500 would be a steal for that piece of Americana. If it were in original condition, it could probably sell in the 2K range.

Strats from that era aren't collectable, so they're not worth all that much.

Actually that's not true any more - even those circa 1979-1981 Strats have been hitting $1,500-$2K over the past year or so - which having grown up in that era absolutely floors me that these are starting to command vintage prices. Granted, thats for one in mint condition. I suggest the OP do some parts searches on eBay (I'm at work and can't search either eBay or GBase) - the neck alone might be worth $500 parted out, plus he could get something for each of the other parts.

Interesting post, because the "CBS era, '70's" strats were looked down on for quite a while....used to be able to get 'em pretty cheap. At least I know 2 people that did.

But have you seen what Guitar Center is asking for them lately? Like $1300-$1700 !!
Apparently just 'cuz they're 30+ yrs old!

Don't know if it's really worth it...I always thought the newer (or older) strats were, overall, better made (exceptions exist, of course)....but just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! 8)
