Well not exactly. All my amps have a mixed bag of preamp tubes in them. Mesa, ElectroHarmonix, Groove Tube, JJ, all scatterd about at this point. I change preampers when they get noisey. Honestly, after changing tubes in a variety of amps for 25 years now, I have not developed a preferance for any brand of 12AX7. There noisey or there not. Sometimes I switch to different tubes, AT7 or AY7.
Almost the same with power tubes. A fresh set sounds fresh if the old ones were worn out. I recently put JJs in the Maverick and switched back to Mesas cause they sounded better. I put JJs in a DC-3 and a Blues Junior and it made no differance. Put em in a Princeton and ended up sticking the old Sovteks back in. Maybe I'll try them in the Blue Angel I just got.
