I am most likely going to trade some stuff for a Nomad 45 2x12. What tones can this amp create? Any tips/tricks for the best tone when testing it out? From what i've read, it looks to be a good all-around amp! What's the going rate for one of these? Thanks!

Make sure you check out the Extreme mode which is switchable near the reverb knobs on the back. I run the 45 in extreme mode all the time. As far as EQ settings and such, I'd start with all the knobs at noon and tweak from there. Volume and gain as well. Make sure you get it cranked up a bit since this is really where it shines...

Thanks! What do these amps go for these days?

I think I paid $649 with upgraded speakers and a fresh set of tubes from a local shop about 2 years ago... should be about the same now.

I paid 750 for a nomad 100 head plus a set of Groove Tubes. These amps are really versatile but depending on your musical tastes i think youll just fall in love with channel 2. great vintage, mid-gain tones (Phish, SRV, Santana, Andy Timmons) plus Ive found adding in the EQ and a tubescreamer makes it into a chugging metal monster! the clean is really nice too! not quite up to fender twin spec but still nicer than a dual recto.

While not a Nomad 45 2x12, I paid 800 for a Nomad 100 head with busted posts in each channel fresh JJ EL34 power tubes and ECC83 preamp tubes, and a Peavey XXL 4x12 slant. The pots were an easy repair job costing less than $50. You should be able to pick up a Nomad for under $1000 bucks, easy. If someone wants more than $1000, they're probably asking too much.

As a Nomad 55 2X12 user, I can tell you that with a bit of adjusting, you may find yourself using the clean channel more than you had expected. Jazz to country. I find ch 2 (the blues channel) to be a git too "gritty" for me without a Sonic Stomp -- but that fixes the problem. Ch 3 is pure hard rock to metal, and does a great job at it (IMO). You may find that a good active, outboard graphic EQ will help a lot. Also, the Nomad's on-board reverb isn't strong (and neither are any of Mesa's IMO), so I do use a digital delay instead.

Give yourself some time to figure out the settings and I think the Nomad will improve your playing. It did this for me.

MusicMan, I am getting confused with your various posts on various threads on this forum about Nomads. In one thread, you say you would change the knobs on your Nomad, but you were selling it. On another thread, you say that the reverb on your Nomad just went out. Now on this thread you say that you just now ordered a Nomad. I'm not being critical -- I'm just confused.

If there was a way you could read my posts in order by date you would find that I started this thread first to inquire if it was a fair trade for my recto cabs, then i noticed the knobs and started a thread, and then the reverb went out but is now fixed - and now the most recent development is that I am selling the Nomad for a Rectoverb. :)
