I MOVED THE QUESTIAN TO HERE viewtopic.php?f=16&t=41938

Well i was haveing a blast this morning , i really dialed in a awsome setting with my c+ and everything where perfect except that over the last 24 houres i started to get a littel strange background noise.

Suddenly that noise touned into a quit loud hummm, i then turn of the amp becasue somthing was wrong.

I then read some pointers on this forum about what it could be.

I then unplugged the footswich made sure that no mobil phone or enything could be the cause . I then open up and i nspekted the board and it diddent smell burnd and i systematical checked it out and everything seems yto be fine, i espicialy inspekted the socket where bright glowing el34 sits

i then turned in on again and after a littel while i flicked on the stadby on and then really bright purple light came from the back.

I quickly turned it of, but i did see it was the el34 TUBE on the left side of the amp that was glowing bright purple.

Im a bit freeked out becasue if somthing happens its a LOOONG way to california from denmark.

I can figure out that it needs a new tube, but shuld i replace all the power tubes ?, could there be somthing that causes the tubes to over heat ?.

There has been zero problems with the amp up ontil today and i havent moved or done enything , the tube jsut blew up out of nowhere

Eny advice is GOLD right now

thanks

I think the hum you heard that grew over time happens when the tubes start to become unbalance (ie one starts to go).

When that happened to me, I went and replaced all 4. My reasoning was that if it was time for one to go, they probably all needed replacing. At the very least you have to replace two because they come as matched sets and you don't want to mix one tube from a set with another from a set because you'll have good tubes nad get that hum

Hi again

I called up some guitar amp repair shops the all think its simply the Tube that needs to be changed.

Now i can breed again , scared the hell out of me. :)

So i have decided to re tube all the power tubes when i at it.

My amp as i is runs mesa EL-34 STR 447 and mesa 6l6 GC STR 440 but i can order different types of mesa el34 and 6l6 tubes and then there is all the other Tube manufactors.

The danish mesa boogie dealer recormended me not to use mesa tubes he siad the where overpriced and there where better alternativs.

I also noticed that the describtion of the mesa str440 6l6`s is soft sound.

My c+ has the 100 pt transformer and i want it to sound as responsiv , clear and dynamic as possible because its my crunch amp and wont be using it as much for cleans.

Basicly more 105pt like if that makes eny sence .

What power tube configuration do you recorment ?

Thanks
