I've got a single Recto and I've got the stock tubes in now. I ordered a set of High Gain replacements from JJ (Eurotubes) and like them but they seem to be less aggressive than the stock.

I have both 6l6's and EL34's for power tubes. I prefer the 6's at this moment.

I was thinking of ordering a SPAX-7A to put into the V1 pre-amp spot. I was told this would reduce the loud humming the amp gives when played at loud volumes.

Is this accurate, necessary, worth the $20? What do you think?

what kind of tube is SPAX-7A?

I got this amp too, and yes it hums a little but I kind of like that. I use a Mullard reissue from Groove Tubes in V1 and a GT 12ay7 tube in V2. The rest is a ecc83 a sovtek and a 5751 tube for phase splitter. The mullard in V1 give a nice touch to it, and the 12ay7 keeps definition. But never use a 12ay7 in V1. Distortion wont happen.

What cables do you use? that has something to say too.

When I played my amp with everything stock, it was a lot muddier, unarticular and way to noisy. Better preamp tubes is the first step, I say.

Don't know if I was any help. Hope so
