I was thinking about the Mod Factor or the Nova Modulator, but now I'm leaning toward something very simple.

I don't like Boss, Digitech, or any of the cheaper pedals.

I'm looking for lush chorus that sounds great with distortion and cleans and is fairly simple to use.

Andy,

I am using the Line 6 M13 and find the cost of 4 decent pedals = 1 M13. The variants of the choruses are rather lush and whether direct through or via the circuit it is very hard to tell of any coloring of tone. I first thought it would be complicated but even my pea brain got use to it and all the various methods it can be rigged up. Of course it may be addictive so ask your family first to make sure they won't miss you for a few weeks or mind the guitar player aroma drifting up from the cave.

I know your not a digitech fan but the new Hardwire pedals have impressed me.

Hardwire Chorus is a great pedal

I just met a guy named Denny at Rainbow Guitars in Tucson who uses one of these. He seemed to really like it.

I think that I want to stick with individual pedals. I like the idea of being able to replace a single part of the chain if I don't like it, instead of the whole enchilada.

I'll look into those other pedals though. How come most pedals cost $299?
 Oh yeah, cuz dumb-asses like me will pay it!

KH Guitar Freak,
Can you tell me what you like and don't like about the Retro Sonic?

Hmmm, Denny/Dennis seems to have great ideas
I was playing at the Black Angus back in the mid 1970s which was on 22nd back then [yes they had this raised floor stage in the combo dining/bar serving room then AND it was cough, cough, sputter - shhh, disco - don't judge me  :? - ugh, worse yet I wore Angel Flight pants with Silk shiney tight shirts - of which I am going to have Travolta Disco nightmares tonight]. Oh yea, the point; I stopped in to Rainbow Music and it was in a little long and narrow building. Just enough room to walk along the glass counter and look at several of the Strats on the back wall. Turned out they had the ceramic knobs & pickups and three were being sold to Zappa. What a mind walk when I read your post. :D

I used to feel the same way about having independence and modularity with pedals / pedal placement. After I had a pedal go out and a friend lent me his M13 [he did help me set it up] I was blown away. With the new EPROMM flash there are over 107 styles with a substantial amount of adjustablity on about 87% of them. You can loop it in various ways or partial loop or even no loop. It lends itself very well to multiple amp setups as well; the feature is actually built in. The Line 6 Expression pedal isn't the best but Mission Engineering makes an outstanding Expression pedal for the Line 6 products and you can hook up two for even more control. You can have 12 effects available (a scene) while having four effects on or 3, or 2, or 1, or none at any time plus you have 48 scenes available to preset and pick [too much to talk about in a short post]. Read about the various styles and types on the website and see if you can try one out. The footprint of the darn thing is small as well. AND if you like to figure out new ways to make things work or even better ways to make existing things work or just find your inner "geekdom soul" it is very very very addictive; especially if you are the person who just may want to see if using the expression pedal can do things live which have only been available in the studio mix [it is true I found several ways - oops did I just admit the kind of person I was out loud] . I am not saying to buy one and change your plan or life's mojo, but for about $400.00 and what you get and can add to it,
I'm just saying ...   8)

  I bet the same guy was at the counter.
Now they have taken over that entire building. They must have 40 PRS's, 60 Strats, tons of Gibsons, and boat loads of cheapy guitars!

I hear what you're saying about the M13, but I program smart homes for a living (that and I'm an electrical contractor and an amplifier mad scientist). I have decided that I don't want to have very many adjustment options with my gear. I want to play it.
I have the type of personality that would make me sit there for hours and just tweak parameters. This is probably why I will never be a shredder, too busy fucking with my gear to actually practice!

I want stellar sounding, easy to use, can't **** it up kind of gear!

Well....I picked up a used MXR Stereo Chorus on ebay for $99 with free shipping.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200445940383&ssPageName=ADME:L:CORT:US:1123

I read all of the Harmony Central reviews and they were all really good reviews. It seems very well liked by it's owners, so we will see.

If it sucks, I will definitely let you know.

Arion SFC-1 Stereo Fat Chorus. Out of production, if you find one buy one. Lush as the Everglades. I have found nothing yet that compares.

Best chorus ever- DLS, Retrosonic, Red Witch (IMHO)

Hardwire is also a killer pedal (not as nice sounding as above- also not as $$$) built like a tank

MXR is also a nice pedal, and for $99- a great value...

enjoy

Let me know how you like it. I was rummaging through my old pedals about an hour ago when I got done with my second job and came home. I ran across one of my favorite chorus pedals before the "all-in-one" M13. It is a DOD FX64 Icebox. Stereo, nice tonal coloring, not bad for a set it and forget it type of pedal. Actually it has a seemingly wide variety of settings but even with the 4 knobs I remember liking only 2 or 3 of the settings and then just setting it to a not too wet & not too dry chorus and forgetting about it. Not too sure which version mine is. I remember someone showing me the FX64 they had and the top design was slightly more blocky looking then mine. I think I paid more for the power adapter then the pedal.

I did see the Red Witch line up a friends shop recently but did not have time to play... :(

I have never tried their pedals, but everybody in the neighborhood got to hear my Hot Watt II after I figured out how to run it through my mom's stereo!

I looked at the Red Witch. That was actually my 1st choice, but I was trying to save a little dough.
I really liked the video on AMS's website. It sounds sweet!

Not being a fan of "bootique" pedals I go with the old standby EHX small clone, however, I have rented a nova system and I really dig the chorus in it. Too bad it doesn't have a loop.
