So today I fired up my Triple Rectifier for the first time in a few months and god DAMN it sounded good!. The only thing I couldn't help notice was that after so much time spent with my Ecstasy, the Mesa sounded a little too loose and flubby. I wanted to fix that, and here's how I got one of the best tones out of my Recto I've ever heard:

Bass - noon
Mids - 3:00
Treble - 1:30
Presence - 8:30
Gain - 2:00
Master - 9:30

I used a Jackson with a Dimarzio X2N in the bridge, D'addario 9s tuned to Drop C#. ******* unbelievable!

I ran my Recto for years without a boost and still do on occasion. I never had a problem with it being tight. I think people get addicted to the sound of a boost and start to think it's necessary after a while.

The x2n is a pretty high output pickup, almost the same as running a boost, however what you did would not work on lower output pickups as well.

I don't think I could stand that much bass. X2N, no boost to reduce sub-lows, Bass at 12 Noon...that would be low end overkill for my taste.

I'll have to get some sound clips! There was a lot of bass until I raised the mids and treble as high as I did. Put a lot of mids back into the amp, sounded huge, and though there was a bit of bass, it definitely wasn't overkill.

I think the lighter strings had a lot to do with it also; my set was a 9 - 42 tuned down. Also, I'm know the X2N is really hot, but I don't see why I wouldn't get the same results with nearly any other passive humbucker...

I doubt it's like running a boost though, unless it was a clean boost.
