While I have no technical knowledge, I can say that the Studio 22 is a very stable, reliable amp, so if you can use the dimmer safely with other amps, it should be OK. I've (accidentally) run my Studio on one output tube without damage for an entire gig, and without any speakers for half a gig, before it gave up.
Currently I have a mod in mine, by Londonpower, that enables me to crank the amp more, by reducing power to the output tubes (at least I think that's how it works).
