People will argue over this, but Mesa says the color code is to match tubes to EACH OTHER (in pairs). In other words, ANY Mesa branded "Green" tube will match ANY OTHER Mesa branded "Green" tube. Tonal variations are in your head. (Prepare for the onslaught of conflicting but totally subjective opinions).
