Well I wanted a different sound and bought an ENGL E530 preamp.

Now people told me I could use it in the effect loop of my DR but the DR would lose its preamp and become a power amp...is this right

also how can I connect this...I have ENGL, G Major and the DR (put the g major between the engl and dr or in the effect loop of the engl)

dont flame now...I'm keeping the DR but I just wanted to have a different sound sometimes...

i would buy a small loop-system with two audio-loops and wire a preamp per loop, after the loop go into the g-major and from there into the returnjack of the DR.
so you can switch on the fly between the DR preamp and the Engl preamp and use the g-major effects with both.

can you tell me what can of system (brand...)

also my rig consist of

Rack tuner (BTR2000)
Furman PQ6 (only for the DR)
ISP Decimator
G Major

how would I be able to connect all this for my new rig...I really like your idea...I could have 2 amps that could be switched

also if I just want to use the ENGL for home use

how do I connect it in the effect loop with the G Major

DR send -> engl input -> engl out -> g major input -> g major output -> DR return ?

Guitar -> engl input -> engl out -> G major in -> G major out -> DR return?

I'm confused

The last signal chain you posted would work best. You'll also need to ensure the mix knob is set to 100% wet. Also, you should have the channel set to vintage or raw otherwise you will not be able to use the presence control.

you telling I dont put anything in the send from the DR? only the return?

if you want only the engl be connected, set it up like this:
git - engl in - engl out - g-major in - g-major out - dr return

as said before, the channel settings on the dr (modern/ vintage) will change the sound as well.

if you want to the it up with a loop system, do it like this:

git - loopsystem input - loop1 send - dr input - dr send - loop1 return - loop 2 send - engl in - engl out - loop2 return - loopsystem out - g-major in - g-major out - dr return

a small loopsystem would be e.g. from g-lab:
http://www.glab.com.pl/midi_2xloop_en

you could use a Lehle product as well or any other looper like the rocktron patchmate.

I used to run a rack that had a Recto and Triaxis in it, along with a Rocktron Xpression for effects. I used a GCX switcher so I could use either the Recto or any preset on the Triaxis, all while using the Recto for a power amp too. Here's a diagram of how I had it configured:

I did something like this with my Express and a VTwin with only a cheap passive A/B switch:

guitar -> DOD A/B box common

DOD A/B box A -> Express IN
DOD A/B box B -> Vtwin IN -> Express effects return

I found the Express did NOT mute the preamp if the send jack was left empty, maybe rec does the same? This does mean power amp and speaker get noise from it's own preamp AND effects return, but I did not find it to be too bad.

Patching in the processor is tricky... maybe it can take both inputs, one from effects send, one from preamp out? Maybe a Y cable would work? Or you could decide to only use the processor with the preamp, and keep the amp tone pure

ok how can I run the engl and g major in stereo if I only use the DR has a power amp? (i wont use the pre amp of the DR!

in no way.
you have to run the g-major in mono while using only the DR poweramp.
for stereo, you´ll need a second poweramp - this means another DR! :D
or just pick up a 19" poweramp, those are made for stereo.

You definitely don't want to run the send of the recto into the input of the ENGL. All you are doing that way is stacking two preamps together and you will get tons of noise and like joe web said, you can't run the g-major in stereo because the recto is not a stereo power amp.

A loop system will be the only way to put to use both preamp so you can switch them back and forth. It's doable but can get a little confusing.

Silverwulf's diagram is exactly what you need to accomplish what you want minus the stereo setup.

well well well

I just bought and Mesa 2:90! Seems like the DR will be unplugged for a little while.

I'd like to run my rack setp in stereo (if possible) with my mesa 4x12 oversized cab

This is were I need your help!

How can I set up my rack?

Engl E530
Mesa 2:90
Furman PQ6
Behringer BTR2000 (tuner)
TC G major
ISP Decimator prorackG

I run the one channel of the isp and the furman in front of the amp ALWAYS!

People have told to

ENGL (effect loop -> BTR2000 -> furman PQ6 -> ISP Decimator) -> TC G major (between pre amp and power amp) -> mesa 2:90 -> 2 cables to cab

+I dont know what to input behind the 2:90....so many holes

???
