well, I bought a new Roadster 2x12 from the online store on 8/1/09.

tonight I was playing with it for about an hour and 4 times within that hour, the blue fx loop light on the footswitch and the amp started blinking and getting weaker and weaker in color. then, the channel light started doing the same thing and then the whole amp shut off. the amp literally sounded like a computer that is powering down. then, after about 30 seconds, it came back up again only to do the same thing a few minutes later.

ideas on what this is? I guess I'm going to call Mesa tomorrow. and this amp is of course covered by warranty because I've not even had it for a month. but this freaking thing is 100+ pounds and I'm not going to be lugging it back and forth to a UPS store over and over. and considering I paid $2100 for it, I don't think I should have to worry that it's going to fart out on me at any given moment.

very troubling.

I had a similar problem with my Road King. I had a rectifier tube that went bad which intern caused some components in the power supply to fail. I found it odd that it sometimes worked, but it flickered sort of like you described.

Could be 1 of 3 things, all simple problems.

1) preamp tube valve; just needs a new preamp tube

2) worn fuse, easy fix.

3) or a resistor is messing up and you can take it to a technician and get it fixed for $50 (which would be cheaper than shipping it to Mesa).

I wouldn't worry too much unless it were droppe or something crazy.
