Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone here could offer me some advice...

I need a setup that's pretty versatile as opposed to 'awesome for...' I don't need crushing chunk.

I'm thinking of going with one closed-back cab with a V30 and one open-back with a Classic Lead 80. Each cab will be coming off one side of my 20/20. The plan is, the closed-back provides the low-end balls for higher-gain tones and warmth for clean tones, and the open-back provides the definition and headroom.

I'm starting with the Celestions because they're a good reference point-- if I want to change them later, basically every other speaker out there is described as "compared to Celestion..."

Does this all make sense? I don't have much of a selection of 1x12s to test at local stores, so I'll pretty much have to order custom and hope it works out.

If you can't get a Mesa cab, try a custom audio electronics 1x12 Theile cab. It has the same dimensions and sonic qualities as the Mesa theile as for open backs, there are many......research....

You are definitely going in the right direction....have fun... :D

Hey CoG, like mentioned, it sounds like you're heading in the right direction. Avatar also makes a pretty good cab. You could have a matched pair, one closed back and one open back. They have a special with a V30 for $198 and a cab Lead 80 is $229 plus shipping.

Whatever cabs you end up with, make sure to give the speakers time to break in before switching them around.

People seem to be liking the Avatar cabs... think I may just order a couple of those since if they don't work out and/or I want to move upmarket I can probably sell them pronto locally. Avatar doesn't ship to Canada and the only distributor is in the middle of nowhere (sorry Winnipeg  ) I just can't justify the coin for Mesa or CAE Theile cabs until I try this setup out for a while.
