Works well in the TriAxis....but I have NEVER had a preamp tube go bad so fast. It got very microphonic within 6 months and just compleatly went dead.
Mine wasnt the only one that turned sour either. Know others that have had issues with them as well...but,when they are running at peak wellness,a very nice tube, not too shrilly or dark. Nice gain too.

i just put in 2 Tung Sol 12AX7's in my trident last night. In V1 and V2.
It sounded absolutly horrible!!
It might be a bad tube actually??
It was loud but sooo bright!! and no buttom end. no matter how i set my amp.

do you guys think its a bad tube? they are brand new, but might be damaged in shipping.
I'll be putting my JJ's back in tonight :D

i used them in my recto, they did sound great for big open sounding power chords but for my style of playing and leads it didn't do it for me plus i had 2 go microphonc so maybe that is why i detest them as well

Wow, didn't expect so much bad news re tung sol tube. There seems to be some positive opinions around (like at tedwebers') so now I'm feeling a little confused. Life is interesting!

Thanx peoples.

If you are getting sound your tubes are ok. You might just be now experiencing what others find about JJ's but in reverse. A lot of people find JJ's to be dark and dull. You might be experiencing a nicer tube after having played the JJ's. I have found that my settings themselves on my Dual seem a little too trebley and I have to add too much presence for the sounds I am trying to achieve. I really don't care where my settings are so long as I have the tone I am looking for. I am thinking it is the JJ's that came with the amp that are causing this situation though. It might be your case as well. Bottom not being there could be from your settings too and from having been changed since using the JJ's. Though I like the gain I am getting form the JJ set I am definitely going to be trying out some other tubes in here. I would say try resetting your eq settings with the Tung Sols you might be surprised. It is often said that treble and gain kind of go hand in hand. You might have some really good Tung Sols and not know it. I'd give 'em another shot.

Im a bit suprised also about what people here are saying about the
tung-sols. I guess if they go out,or get microphonic on you too soon, you
would have no other option than to hold them suspect.
I have been using tung-sols in my ROV now for the last 4 months with daily use and have had no probs yet.
I have them in my V1,V3 and v5 spots. V5 being balanced.
I decided to go this path after a lot of swapping one evening.
Other than the tung-sols, I tried mesa 12ax7's,, JJ ECC83S, and
electro harmonix 12ax7.
I found the EH's to have a lot of feedback?? They also created a thumping sound in my effects loop when I added bass from my pedal.. Too high of gain? My jjecc83s's dont do this in the loop.
I found the tung-sols to be very clean, clear, quiet and somewhat bright sounding.
Im too amateurish too know or spend the bucks on some NOS tubes so I settled on the tung-sols because I thought they are the best for what I can afford.
Just and added note,,,I found that I liked the sound of a stock mesa 12ax7 in v2 over the other brands I have,,,it seemed to make the sound a little edgier...

i have tung sol's in V1 and V2 of my dual rec, and it sounds f'ing awesome!

also, check out JAN Phillips 6L6's. f'ing godly.

Thanks a lot Russ. I figured they were good tubes since I was gettin a loud sound...and it was LOUD! But I wasnt sure if it was at all possible to have a bad tube and still get a high volume.
I guess I need to play around a lot more with them. I did spend a lot of time tweaking the EQ but i had no clue a tube would produce such a diffferent sound!

If you think that a preamp tube is a change, try changing your speaker type and enclosure. With a few little changes like these you can transform the way your amp sounds. These are some of the most critical steps in finding your tone once you select your guitar and amp.

I had to adjust my Mark IV settings once I put in the Tung-sols. But after that they were a huge improvment.
