Hey guys!

I have two of these bad boys lying around...

Anyone try them in their Mark IV's? What positions do you like them in? I'm mostly concerned about V1.

Appreciate the input!

Eric

I had Tung Sols for my whole preamp at one point, and they are very nice.
Although considering tung sols are a higher gain tube in my opinion, I think having 5 of them running is too much.
When the gain starts cascading, it's begins to get harsh,

I think they are awesome when you combine them with other tubes that balance them out and compliment them. I think I am running two Chinese 12ax7's and three tung sols in my preamp now.

Hope that helps.

i'm a big fan of these tubes. Try one in V1 & go from there: really sweetens the tone in my MIII.

...and keep them out of any cathode-follower positions: they are a fragile tube apparently. i've had a number of them fail/lose gain after only a short while.

I love it in V1 :D Smoothed things out a bit and added warmth/thickness

+1 That's all I use in the V1. Gives great clarity. I dont't care for them in the other positions though.

Man,,,,tube reviews by others are great but.....really only you can judge for sure.

Heres an idea: How about sticking those bad boys in your amp and trying them out and then give us YOUR review!

For me, tube rolling is a lengthy process - I make a tube change and play it for several gigs because there are so many factors that can affect the response of the rig. I make quick notes after the gig and look over time what the actual change was for me - if any.

Soon I will discover my optimal.

It is the overall consensus that the Tung Sol seems to be the choice of many for the main V1 position for most amps these days. They especially make the Marks shine.

I just put four selected TungSol 6L6:s in my Mark IV. Like night and day compared to stock 6L6:s. I have also a couple of TungSol 12AX7's in the preamp.

Extremely nice and articulate clean and high gain tones :D

I'm so glad, that I had to donate again (thanks Ned)... :D
