Tubes for Quad? Any advice?

I just got my quad I'm going to take it in and have it serviced, cleaned out, and put new tubes in it. What tubes sound the best in the Quad. I love metal and low end chunk but I do love the cleans this thing has. What tubes will give me the best of both worlds? Thanks!

Tell him what you have, he will put together a nice mix of (in your case) preamp tubes, and tell you what order to put them in. Has made all the difference in the world for my amp’s.

Quad deserves nothing but the NOS tubes. Expensive but prepare for a revelation! They are disappearing from the market and this level of sonic quality will unfortunately never be available again.

Mine runs on JJs and I have never come across anything better, imho.

Old Used Tubes?

I have couple of Quads and put them following tubes:

1. Quad: Svetlana 12ax7 and JJ ecc83. Sounds very nice and maybe lesser gain than if there is only JJ's. Svetlana is very nice sounding tube..i have heard that they don't make them anymore???

2. Quad have : RFT 12ax7, Telefunken 12ax7 and Amperex 12ax7. I think that sound is even smoother that Quad nro.1. Tubes are quite expensive, but all of them is more powerfull than new svetlanas and JJ's. I tested them..RFT is in my opinion unrelated tube.
