I have a 400+ and it seems that the volume is dropping on the amp. Maybe a little more muddy, but that's pretty subjective. The volume drop is real. I can still gig with it. Does it sound like it's time for new tubes? Or should I just have my hearing checked?

Thanks

Sounds like it is time for a re-tube. Large volume drops, weird noises Strange Behavior and the like usually tell you it is time for some power tubes. Squealing and hissing and dead channels- pre amp tubes. Better to be safe than sorry. As for the tube "Brand", Just get some Mesa tubes and your good to go. Don't forget to clean your tube sockets while you have it all opened up. Just spray some T.V. tuner cleaner on the old tube (Don't go crazy, just a quick squirt.) and plug it in and out a couple of times and your good. Download your manual from the Mesa website for the "Matched" tube positions. Good luck and rock out!
