Good staff (lol, google translation), meaning hi all, first post here.

I recently noticed that my table boogie 2:50 power amp (lol again... mesa= table for Portuguese-english translation) is deploying different sound volumes of its two channels, one being duller. I tried changing the speaker cables to see if the problem was from the cabs, but that is not it. I peered into the back of it and saw that one of the four tubes lacks the glow that the others have, where I gather to be a tube problem, because the sound comes and goes every now and then as a boost in volume, like if the channel / tube in question suddenly woke up.

Both channels work, only one is weaker.

Now as I am of new to tubes (used solid state for many years), it will be my first power tubes exchange, so I would like to read your opinions on the subject . The power amp can handle EL34 and 6L6 tubes, but I think it they must all be alike. As a sound reference, I come from the school of distortion, forwarding the path of crystal like sounds, so a versatile and punching tube would be desired .

What brands, models and stores do you suggest? Obviously I considering the price and location of purchase, ie, pairs of valves above 45 € are out of the question , as well as purchases outside Europe.

Thanks in advance...

I'm someone that is not a tube expert - meaning i don't bias my own amps or install bias mods myself. Because of this, i like Eurotubes. With Mesa amps, since the bias does not change, you can tell him which amp you have in the comments section of your purchase and he will make sure he sends you tubes that match your amp's bias.

For my 50/50, i purchased 4 6l6GC tubes, and in the comments I noted - "Hey, these are for a Mesa 50/50 rack power amp!" and he sends the appropriate tubes. Good prices, fast shipping, recommended. Plus they stock JJs, which most folks rave about.

I've used Eurotubes and had good dealings with them. My favorite place, however, is The Tube Depot because they rate all of their output tubes, which is more precise than Eurotubes. The Tube Store also rates their output tubes. I just use Tube Depot because I'm used to their numbers.

If you´re in Europe I can highly recommend Tube Town in Germany.
I bought an integrated matched set of 6L6/EL34 for my 2:90 there and shop all my other preamp tubes and parts there as well....
Prices are good (ways better tahn TAD....) and customer service and -care is spot-on.

Thank you all for your input. Now, what about the tubes to choose and why? Are there REAL differences (besides the price and origin) between JJ Electronics, Electro Harmonix or Sovtek on 6l6s, for example?
