Hi all

I'm going to be in the market for a Dual or Single (Solo 50) Rectifier pretty soon, I'm pretty sure the Dual has chassis mounted tubes but the one I saw was a pretty early example of this amp. Does anyone know if they still make em like this. I'm also pretty interested in the Single Rec (actually would rather have this one) but haven't seen one opened up in person and cant find a gut shot anywhere I look.
Thanks in advance to the Mesa experts out there.

On all the Rectifiers I have ever seen, the preamp tubes are mounted directly to the PCB board and the power and rectifier tubes are chassis-mounted.

That's right. All Mesa Rectifiers have board-mounted preamp tubes and chassis-mounted power tubes and rectifiers. The later models (including the Single Rectifier) have power tube sockets that are *both* chassis-mounted and PCB-mounted at the same time.

Don't worry about it, it really doesn't matter despite the hype about it. I've worked on enough amps with hand-wired chassis-mounted sockets that cause trouble because the sockets are junk and others with PCB-mounted sockets that are fine because the sockets and PCBs are high enough quality, to know that how the socket is mounted is of less importance than the quality of the components and the amp.

Mesa amps are high quality... period.

For what it's worth there are actually significant *advantages* (consistency of tone due to precise control of wiring layout, and reduced microphonics if the board is also shock-mounted as it is in Mesas) in PCB-mounting the preamp tubes, at least in a high-gain amp.

Thanks for the reassuring words man.

I never had a problem with any amp I've owned in the past that has board mounted tubes but all the ripping on that design in some forums has gotten me a tad paranoid about it i guess. That amp looks really well put together, I really like that all the amps controls (which are the only thing anyone is going to be yanking on every day) aren't wired directly to the board. Now all i have to do is get one plug in and rawk.
