I posted a detailed review in the "Modern Amps" section so go there if you want more detail.

V1 & V2 - GT-12AX7-C (not as low gain as you might think)

Power tubes - GT-EL34-m's (matched pair).

These tubes make this amp allot more musical & take away allot of the highs that these amps are known for.

I also tried a GT-ECC83-S (V1) & liked it allot (Very M@r$ha!! sounding).

The power tubes actually made the bigger difference. I'm almost there now. I just need to find the right speaker for this amp. I think it may be a "Legend" or a "Greenback".

Good luck in your quest all !

Peace !

Udamann,

I'm interested in the GT-el34-m powertubes. They have a performance indicator which stands for how hot the tube is. What performance indicator have had your EL34 tubes ? I really want to know this because I also want to order a pair of these tubes. Do you remember which grade it was, or would you be so kind to look for it on the tube ? (it's written on the tube)

thanks in advance!

GT uses a distortion rating for how 'hot' the tube is. The safe range to use in a Mesa is between 4 and 6...

I may have to try a 12ax7c or two in my Ace...
