I won a pair of Mesa 6CA7/EL34 STR416 ,claimed to be NOS NIB . But when I tested them one tube was perfect 39mA @ 444VDC, the other tube was shorted from plated to heater. On my Fluke DMM plate to heater reads 160k to 190K. My question could this happen in shiping ? It was shiped 4000 miles from east to west coast. I have never seen this type of damage from ship & handling I have about 100 tubes from all over the US & Canada. The seller said he tested them & they were fine is he a LIAR ?
I personally would not sell a pair of tubes knowing there was a bad one. Yet, if I sold a pair and you gave this reply to me
I would probably have you send me back the bad tube and replace it for you. If it was indeed shipping, I think all transport including U.S.P.S have $100.00 insurance included, that said you may have to prove the damage was done
in transport, ex. great packaging but box crushed when received, you may get half your money back.
If you bought it ebay, the sad part is, nobody wins, when one blames the other, and or ,does not agree with terms, No Returns, and still buys the item and is shocked to find out the great item "sold as is" no returns is really junk.
Yet, sell it with a return policy and you get back a tube that was good but they put the tubes back in their messed up amp
and I have to pay for their idea of "I have a bad tube and the fuse blew, it MUST be the tubes",yet they also have a bad screen or grid resistor also. In a way you can't blame someone for the no return sold as is.
Yet if the damage was done via shipping make a claim, hold the item and packaging in the rare case they want to see it.
I always pay for insurance above $100.00 it is cheap, and if something gets messed up in shipping and it is packed correctly I usually get a check. I no longer us UPS period. I do not want my money back, I want my item to get where it is going undamaged and ups has I.M.H.O went downhill for getting items shipped safely.
I hope you can resolve this.
Just some ideas.
