Hi, I'm not sure how to describe this (which may be why I was unable to find a thread on this topic).
My Triple Recto suddenly, out of the blue, started making really ugly static sounds on the red and orange channels. I mean, it just started doing it SUDDENLY. On raw, it isn't as bad, then on vintage, it gets worse, then on modern, it's even worse. Basically, I hit a note on my guitar, and it just cuts out and makes scratchy static sounds. It sort of sounds like when you have a bad connection in your input jack of the guitar. I plugged in to another amp and it sounded fine, so I know its the Triple doing it.
Any ideas of what could be going on? Should I take it to the amp tech to have a repair?
Thanks!

Hopefully it doesn't turn out like the problems I recently had with my triple.

Have you troubleshooted your preamp/power tubes yet? That may hopefully be the cause and not anything more serious.

That'll be my next test I guess. It could just need new tubes. These are still the originals and I've had it for four years now. Thanks man.

Sure, no problem. It sounds like some preamp tubes are failing in the v2, v3 slots but next time turn your amp on and watch the power tubes for unusual flashes from behind the amp just in case.

Will do, that sounds perfectly logical. With no technical expertise, sometimes I'm a little shy about tinkering with such a complicated device, but checking the tubes should be a no-brainer. I guess unusual flashes would be a good sign that it's time for fresh tubes...

I'd like to know if the tube swap worked for you. I have a 2-channel triple that has started doing the same cutout thing. The tubes are original from when I bought it in 97, so I'm hoping new power tubes will fix it. Low volume, no problem, push the tubes harder and it starts cutting out.
