Was using my fairly new Mesa Boogie triple Rec , while i was not even playing the amp began to hum. I figured out that the noise was coming from the effects loop. I had a reverb unit plugged in through it at the time. Now when i try to use it, i get a loud hum and no other sound. Also on the front of the amp the "loop active" i have no control over the solo knob and output knob. Neither work now.

Does anybody know what happened?

Help!

I'm not 100% sure man but I do know that there are issues with running some effects through a parallel loop (Which the triple is.) I had the same problem with a TC Electroics Nova System and am returning the unit and thinking about modding my Mesa to a series loop. Not really sure if I will or not yet. I know the folks that are using the more expensive effects are having no problems because they set something up with the unit they purchased, i.e G system and G force. I don't have the cash right now for that. Good luck man and let me know how it turnes out. I am having the same problems as well. I am putting new tubes in it at the end of this week hoping to solve some issues. My Mesa is about 3-4 years old and the tubes have never been changed.

This might sound really obvious, but my advice would be...

1. To check the "send" and "mix" levels on the FX loop and make sure you have it set around noon to start with.

2. Make sure that the FX loop is either set to the channel you want the reverb on, set to "footswitch", or set to "loop on".

3. Now, make sure that you have the reverb's "input" jack connected to the "send" jack on the Recto. then connect the reverb's "output" to the Recto's "return" jack.

4. Now, use the Output control on the front of the amp to bring the amp up to playing volume. If this doesn't work, There could be a preamp tube (V4) that needs to be replaced, or something wrong inside the chassis.
