Triple Rec Preamp Tube Question

I was over at tubestore site looking at info on 12AX7 tubes, they have a chart that says a 12UA7 is 70% less gain than a 12AX7. If I were to put a 12UA7 in V1-2-3 slot on my triple, would this effectively lower the overall volume in such a way that I could push into the power tubes harder, or am I not uderstanding how preamp tubes work?

I might add that I dont ever dime out my gain settings, I ussually have them around 12 -2 oclock.

It would still be as loud, but you wouldn't have as much gain from the preamp. You would probably have to turn your gain knob up higher to get the same ammount of distortion, which in the end would produce the same result as using 12ax7s, just different settings.
