Has anybody also experienced that on channel 3?

I mean, I love the triode mode, and there is where I get the creamiest, silk and smoothest tones, specially on MkIIc+ when recording... and I only use ch3 for soloing..... but when playing live, it just doesn't stands out as the pentode ... I have to push the volume almost to max during a solo using triode while I can be heard perfectly around 1 o'clock if I'm on pentode. It is not a matter of volume, because I don't notice too much of a volume difference switching between triode/pentode, it's just how it really stands out the other instruments ...

My settings:
ch3 - 90w - eq "v" curve
gain - 3 o'clock
presence - 11 o'clock
treble - 1 o'clock
mid - 11 o'clock
bass - 9 o'clock
BOSS DD-3 in the loop

cab is a recto 2x12 with v30s

has anybody ever A/B this triode/pentode live?

Thanks!

I haven't used triode with a band yet, but try backing the gain off a bit to open the sound up.

I'm thinking the compressed preamp (gain 3:00) stacked on top of the compressed (triode) power amp is what's holding you back. Switching to Pentode reduces compression and increases dynamic response. Maybe if you reverse it (less gain, more triode) you'll get what you're looking for.

nothing wrong with the amp-this IS the diff. between triode and pentode...tri will drop output level...I will echo what SDaisy stated about lowering the gain...and I will add that you may want UP THOSE MIDS on the eq, as triode is more of a scooped tone to me to begin with
also, if you like the cut of pentode, you can try lowering the mids on your eq

Tks everyone, I will certanly try these tips ...

I really feel that my triode setting is really scooped... I'll work with those mids and gain and let you guys know.....

Regarding the delay, APEMAN, I use the DD-3 with pentode mode and it seems to cut thru with no problem, that's why I kinda thought it had to be something else... but we never know... I will follow your sugestion too and see how that works!

check out the areas in user manual-if you don't have one , you can download on Mesa site(they fixed MOST of the original, which was a little warped...)it will explain better than me, but it is something all Mark owners need to know about in order to get the most out of the amp
enjoy!

Yepper, been there...done that! Nothing wrong with your amp or gain setting necessarily.
I experienced the exact same situation "once" (until I corrected the problem).
While playing live no matter what the size of your venue, Pentode is your Friend ....Period!!

Exactly !!!

It actually says in page 42 of the MkV Manual:

"(TRIODE) ...offers more complexity and nuance, but the trade-off is that it may not cut through a mix as well."

Mistery solved !
