Hi All,

I just recently bought a Triaxis v2.0 #44XX from eBay. I was programming it, and I could change patches from the front panel AND via MIDI, and was tweeking patches via the front panel buttons, saving, changing patches, etc. After 3-5 iterations, all the front panel buttons would freeze. It would return to normal when I rebooted. This was very repeatable.

I called Mesa, and they did not have a record of this sort of problem, except for one case where they would up replacing the processor.

I took a last shot at debugging before sending it to MESA, and fixed the problem. I was controlling MIDI from a Gsystem through a PSA-1 preamp (I was using the PSA-1 before I bought the Triaxis, and have it in the rack as a backup). The MIDI went from Gsys out to PSA-1 IN, then from PSA-1 OUT/Through to Triaxis IN.

The last time I had used MIDI was in the 90s, and I remember that OUT and OUT/THROUGH were often not the same. So I rewired the MIDI to go from Gsys to Triaxis IN, then Triaxis OUT to PSA-1. Problem solved, or at least I have not seen it since. I suspect the PSA sends something funny via its MIDI out.

Hey,

I had a Triaxis that froze up as well. I read it was to do with the connector from the front panel to the main board not being seated probably (apparently mesa knows about this). I reseated the connectors on my unit but sold it before I could get a chance to see if that actually fixed the problem.

Worth a try.

Hi Shane,

Yes, I have heard of that issue. The Mesa service mgr told me that the older style connectors (or ribbon cable, I forget which) didn't hold up well, and they have a better version now.

I would expect the ribbon cable issue to either be more intermittent, or to be more constant (i.e. rebooting wouldn't fix it). Either way, I will keep an eye on it. So far, so good.

Thanks!
