Hi

I'm currently using an Express 5:25 head with 2x12 Recto Cab and G major fx unit- I can't quite get the lead sounds i'm looking for.

I like the idea of rack gear, so I'm thinking of swapping for a Triaxis and small power amp like a Marshall 20/20 ( i'm mainly a bedroom player) - do you guys think this will be a better combo across the board? I play mainly metal and high gain lead stuff and the express isn't quite cutting it.

Any advice on gear would be much appreciated,

cheers,

Paul

My TriAxis/G-Major/2:Ninety/Recto 2x12 getup definitely does high gain well. Haven't played an Express, but in my opinion, you can't go wrong with a TriAxis. [as long as you have a Boogie power amp]

i have owned a triaxis for about 10 years and got to play an express one day for about 3 hours as I was looking to add a small combo amp. Obviously, my ears are in tune with the triaxis but i loved the express amp.....it does agreat job for what it is. BUT the triaxis is honestly an incredible piece of gear.....you will have more versatility and have less trouble getting the high gain sounds you are looking for in my humble opinion.

I agree. The Express is a decent amp, but it seems to not have enough gain or definition in the lead channel to pull off a good lead - especially a high gain lead. It seemed more fitting for jazz and/or blues stuff IMO. I've not played a Triaxis, but from what I've heard and read of it I think it is the better option since you already have the rack effects unit. You'll need a power amp still of course.
