Hi folks, this is my first post!

I have just bought a used Triaxis V2, non-phat. It sounds great with all modes RHYTHM,LEAD1 and LEAD2 - as long as I don't have any gain on the Lead 1 drive. If I use this gain control, I get a lot of hum and noise in my sound, the higher the gain, the worse it is.

As I am new to the Triaxis and don't quite understand the whole setup yet, I thought I'd ask you guys what might be causing this? My suspicion at this point is that one of the 5 tubes is not working properly - I just looked at the instruction book and there is a diagram of the tubes suggesting V1 is related to this control. Is this correct? Should I change this tube? Can I diagnose this noise problem by switching some tubes around?

Any help greatly appreciated. I am anxious to get this beast going at its full potential!

One this I find odd is that the Triaxis doesn't have a parallel FX loop. I also own a Marshall JMP1 Midi Preamp and the greatest thing about it is that you can control the dry/wet mix from the preamp - so you don't lose any dry tone by going through the FX unit. It also gets around the issue of little silence gaps when changing presets on the FX unit. Has anybody else been frustrated by this issue? Are there any affordable MIDI switchable mixers out there so that I can keep most of my signal dry and just send a small proportion through the FX unit? My problem is I like to vary the wet/dry mix on different presets so I would love something that is MIDI switchable.

At this point, I'll be running my Triaxis through my Marshall 9200 power amp (6L6 powertubes) Has anybody had any issues, or just comments, about this combination? It's practically impossible to find a Mesa 2:90 in Australia - especially a used one at a decent price. The new price in OZ is totally impossible for me. Hopefully it will sound ok through the Marshall for now.

Anyway, nice to join your community and I'm sure I'll be a regular visitor from now on.

Andy

Yep, try swapping V1 with V4. If your LD1 red is ok and all LD2 modes work not properly you've got the winner (or looser).

Just tried swapping the V1 and V4 tubes, unfortunately it didn't change. I even manage to scrape together 4 AX7's from my Marshall amps and the symptoms are the same. :( I guess that means the problem is somewhere else in the circuitry so I'll have to find a service centre. Hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Thanks for your help though.

Hope for you too ! Try a look inside, maybe you'll find imediatly a faulty compound

This souns familiar to me. I once had a similar issue, with lead 2 gain interfering with the other channels. This led me to believe that the Lead 2 circuit was always on, therefore there was a problem with the whole switching circuit inside the Triaxis.
Turned out I was right, the whole switching matrix was defective, repaired by changing a few capacitors. Not likely something you could diagnose or repair by yourself, unless you are somehow qualified in electronics.

It should be a cold solder. (Not expensive)
Bad capacitor (a few dollars)
a bad wires between 2 boards. (not expensive)
It should be a LDR (a few dollars)

If it does not touch the High power, it not should be expensive to repair.
But the time a the technical staff is expensive.

Let we know, what is the problem?
Detail of reparation, (components change, time etc...)
a the price for your repair?

The only bad thing of triaxis is the component take in china.
Take care mesa boogie do not make any components on triaxis. except power transformer is custom part.(i think)
The big blue capacitor are just print by mesa but, you can buy any capacitor with the same value and a good ESR.

Good lock.

Hey folks,

My Triaxis is now fixed and sounding great! There were a couple of loose components and a faulty output pot that needed replacing. It didn't cost much to fix so I'm happy. The guy I bought it from even chipped in to help me pay for the repair - that's classy.

edit: I have removed my MIDI mapping question as I've posted it elsewhere.

I think I answered this question already but it's great to hear your TriAxis is running OK now!
